Even though the external mechanism allows for new branches to be introduced, the core of its life and essence cannot be touched. Same with ourselves, attaching things to our essence in hopes we will grow stronger will result in a disturbance and eventually failure.

Often we can attach new branches to a tree, to get different fruits or make it it a different tree. Thought this works... if the tree has a strong foundation/root system. People don't attempt to attach roots to the trunk to build, evolve or strengthen an existing tree.
