We welcome the Chancellor’s announcement to continue the fuel duty freeze, from today's Budget, after much campaigning by the RHA over several weeks. Haulage and coach businesses are essential to economic growth. With operating costs increasing, margins tightening and the direct link between higher movement costs and inflation, the last thing these vital businesses needed was a rise in fuel duty. Fuel prices continue to put a massive strain on budgets with diesel prices higher here than in any EU member state. More could still be done to support these businesses, the essential users of diesel for whom no other affordable choice of fuel exists. This would go some way to reducing some of the pressures that have driven consumer prices higher. The Government’s long-term vision for growth cannot be achieved without taking the right steps to support a sector which is crucial to the economic health of the country.

Our MD @RHARJSmith met with the new Future of Roads Minister @LilianGreenwood this morning. Commenting on the meeting, Richard said: "I was delighted to meet the new Future of Roads Minister today. I congratulated the Minister on her appointment and set out the key priorities facing our members across the country and our commitment to working in partnership with her to solve the challenges ahead: ▪ Cost pressures facing operators with average margins of 2% ▪ Boosting roads investment - nationally and locally ▪ Improving driver facilities and addressing the major truck and coach parking shortage ▪ Skills shortages - the need to boost the number of vehicle mechanics and continue HGV Skills Bootcamps ▪ Greater clarity and certainty needed on the transition to net zero I look forward to working with Minister Greenwood in the coming months." #Collaboration
