Check your short outlets first before moving to the longer routes. If you do the opposite, you lose the opportunity to complete a pass to a wide open receiver. The #Ravens were playing a deep zone anyway (a defender didn’t follow the motion pre-snap).

If Richardson’s eyes scanned right to left, he would’ve seen he has both the RB in the flat (the “hot” route) and the WR on the stick wide open. Completing a pass to either would have resulted in a likely 20+ yard gain, and perhaps even a roughing the passer penalty.

There’s no reason for Richardson to stare to the left for so long. It’s a sideline go route—the defender starts deep and only retreats deeper. You’re not throwing there. Meanwhile, all of the quick developing routes unfold to Richardson’s right: this is where he needs to look.

@ScottKacsmar The S, Hufanga (29) shades Adams at the top of the screen. This leaves Moseley (4) in a 2-on-1 bind on the other side. A completion to St. Brown on the vertical is a TD. A completion to Lazard (13) in the middle of the field is a wide open 1st down. Rodgers goes to Adams up top.

@ScottKacsmar My mistake. He threw the pass to Adams, who was in double coverage. There’s a wide open WR in the middle of the field at the 45; not sure if that is St. Brown. But it would’ve been at least a 30 yard play.

@spoonlocks @gamscout I disagree with the premise that any competent QB could win in that offense. Hurts’ dual threat abilities and outside-the-numbers pass accuracy perfectly complements their style of offense. It’s a bit similar to Russell Wilson’s early offenses with #Seahawks.

@spoonlocks @gamscout Same with the pass to Dotson: a properly thrown pass results in a touchdown, not a tackle at the 1 yard line. Hurts was better in the #Superbowl with the shorter passes than the deep ones (which is the opposite of his typical play).

@BretLaGasse67 @FinsUpSteven @GrindingTheTape A better comp might be Dalvin Tomlinson or Vita Vea. Someone who plays important snaps inside and pushes the pocket (generating pressures), but doesn’t necessarily put up large sack numbers.

@JagsMock @thegauchoholic @ChrisTrapasso I’m more bothered (I imagine Bosa is, too) by some of the holds linemen get away with. But that doesn’t give him a license to hurt his team with those penalties. Khalil Mack’s been held just as much, but he doesn’t complain like that, he just strip sacks Carr as he’s being held.

@JagsMock @thegauchoholic @ChrisTrapasso The #Packers’ and #Eagles’ OTs also begin swinging their kick (outside) leg just before the snap of the ball, but without moving their bodies. It’s basically their way of “getting started early,” but legally (as refs won’t call the false start). Looks like Taylor has this move.
