*Potentially Significant Heat Wave Next Week* - The season's first real heat wave will begin on Monday and continue throughout next week. Highs in the 90s with heat index values in the upper 90s through 110 degrees are expected. This will be amplified by the corn evapotranspiration aka corn sweat. A lot of moisture in the ground from all the storms combined with a lot of heat and humidity will lead to dangerous heat conditat times. Be prepared and make sure your a/c unit is ready to go with fresh filters and it's clear of debris from all the storms. We may see some relief at times next week as a ring of fire weather pattern sets up bringing potentially severe thunderstorm chances to northern Illinois. #ilwx

1pm Update: A significant tornado outbreak is still on the table for tomorrow. The HRRR model has been trending toward more discrete, isolated storms, especially across Illinois. The Catch: Thermodynamics are weak for mid June. As seen below surface-based CAPE (instability) is relatively low, which is suppressing the model's UH tracks. Despite extreme wind shear, the storms aren't reaching full potential on recent runs. Things can change though, I’m not expecting this to necessarily weaken. Main threat is still going to be along and south of I-80. Nonetheless, it’s still going to be a very messy day across northern and central IL. #ilwx #inwx

StormNet has slightly show an increase in risk for tornado producing supercells across central Illinois (around a 60-70% chance). Trends are staying consistent I must say. StormNet is still new but has been surprisingly accurate across multiple occasions thus far. #ilwx

Update: looks like the brunt of the storms will hit the Chicagoland area after 7pm tonight (W to E). 19Z HRRR run shows cluster of storms over downtown around 10-11pm tonight. Another round of passing showers possible in the early Sun AM hours. Not expecting anything severe really with this. Might get winds and occasional downpours. #ilwx

1045am update: A few strong to severe thunderstorms are possible from 2pm through 10pm this evening. Scattered damaging wind gusts and large hail are possible. Almost zero chance of a tornado. HRRR prefers the 7-8pm start time for storms out west as seen below. #ilwx

9pm Update: Storm threat for N IL is over. The last of the storms are lingering over far southern Cook county just about to exit the state and go into NW Indiana. If you are in NW Indiana, anticipate some very strong straight line winds up to 80mph as these push through the area. Also getting word of some significant tornado damage across northern Indiana as a major tornado went through there earlier. For Illinois... So far we have significant damage in the Streator IL and Dwight IL area. Also hearing reports of Bartlett receiving damage and some other small towns in northern Kane county. Was today a bust? Well, its 50/50 depending on how you look at it. If we had a stronger/longer daytime heating this early afternoon, I am willing to bet this would have played out differently. The boundary also remained a little south than anticipated earlier on, which really saved the northern half of the state from the brunt of it. #ilwx
