Kinda random, but maybe Hawai’i and Connecticut isn’t like comparing apples to pineapples. Last week, Hawai’i became the second state after Rhode Island to join our growing retirement savings alliance. More states joining = lower investment fees for CT savers and more people across the US who have access to a secure retirement after a lifetime of hard work. Total win win.

No one should be in debt because they got sick, and I know what it's like because I grew up in a family that had to pay off medical bills. But thanks to a program @GovNedLamont started in 2024, CT is leading the nation in cancelling medical debt. In two years, the program has slashed $500 million of debt for 252,000 people. That's really incredible and life-changing for people, and I'm proud to live in a state that's doing this. A new round is just starting, so if you get a letter from Undue Medical Debt with the state seal on in the next few weeks, it's legit - don't throw it out!

The year before I became Comptroller, our spending on weight loss drugs rose by 50%. I put a new policy in place that has cut the cost trend, improved health outcomes for those taking the drugs, and saved taxpayers $29 million.
When I’m around the state talking to business owners, the first things to come up are healthcare and energy costs. But it’s also important to hear about the other issues—permitting, hiring, and more—impacting individual businesses. I’m working every day on solutions to the obstacles Connecticut businesses face and appreciate the Madison Chamber for a great conversation.

New report coming later this AM. At the beginning of my term, I was faced with a tough dilemma: allow unsustainable GLP-1 cost growth to continue or cut coverage entirely. In Connecticut, I’m proud to say we took a third route by partnering with @FlyteHealth to offer clinically-appropriate weight management care. And we’ve seen results. People are healthier and more invested in the care they’re receiving. We’re already seeing cost savings, I’m hearing all the time how validating this program is for participants, and the State of Connecticut is looking forward to the future of this partnership.
Private equity is seeping into every aspect of our lives and ruining them. CT was just ranked #1 in the nation for patient safety by Leapfrog. That’s a really big deal, and it wouldn’t have happened without the incredible work nurses do each and every day in our state. To the nurses I visited today at Rockville Memorial Hospital - and to every nurse in Connecticut - thank you, and Happy National Nurses Day!

What is the Citizens’ Assembly on property tax reform? It’s a new take on the oldest American ideal: that ordinary citizens, when faced with a shared problem, can come together, find common ground and point their elected leaders in the right direction.
