My personal favorite part of Colossians in the Passion Translation is where Brian shamelessly plagiarizes a footnote and translation from p. 599 of Glenn David Bauscher's "Aramaic-English Interlinear" but... To each his own I guess.
“And since he is the beginning and the firstborn heir in resurrection, he is the most exalted One, holding first place in everything." Colossians 1:18 The Passion Translation
If you read the Passion Translation on a regular basis, you are reading hundreds of translations and footnotes copied from the work of a man who claims that the reason his work doesn't match any actual dictionaries of "Aramaic" is because he is "restoring the original words." Translation: he made it all up.
Read again: no one who rejects "WHAT THEY TEACH" is a Christian. The creeds are a summary and crystallization of the teaching of Scripture. The early fathers all accepted this teaching as the regula fidei This is why Irenaeus basically has the entire Apostle's Creed in the late 2nd century.
LDS last week: "Why won't you call us Christians?" LDS this week: "Christianity is an abomination!!"

@MagnusNebdal It's a typo in the original source, not on my end. In the translation portion Bauscher correctly says, "By putting OFF his body"
Exactly, but you only know Christ is the source of the words because they are transmitted in writing through the Scriptures. Neither you nor the magisterium can provide me with a direct quotation from Jesus that is not contained in Scripture. As a Protestant, I agree that God Himself is the source of all revelation. I just believe that we can only infallibly know that revelation by means of that which has been "breathed out by God" in Scripture.
Bauscher is not a scholar so I wouldn't trust him in general, but in this case his translation is not all that far from the mainstream of Syriac translations. The translation itself appears valid, but Bauscher takes that translation and draws assumptions from it. Those assumptions end up in the Passion Translation footnote.
My highlights from Ephesians in TPT: 1. 15 independent instances of copying distinctive language from The Message that do not appear in a single other english version. 2. 19 instances of copying from TLB/NLT 3. Footnote 1:4 where Brian copies a totally made up meaning of a Greek word invented by a gay-affirming, universalist "translator" (one of Brian's favorite sources by the way!) 4. At least 25 instances of copying from a man who believes that the King of Norway stopped his film from winning an Oscar (he was never nominated) and that his father founded the CIA 5. Footnote 55 on Ephesians 4:13 which is plagiarized from p. 612 footnote 25 of Andrew Gabriel Roth's "Aramaic English New Testament" 6. Footnotes 62 and 74 which are plagiarized from Glenn David Bauscher's "Original Aramaic New Testament"

"Why does it really matter if the Passion Translation footnotes contain plagiarism?" Because, as will be shown soon, I can point to large charismatic ministries who have based ENTIRE DOCTRINES off of plagiarized footnotes from the Passion Translation. The worst part of it all is that the source Brian plagiarized for this particular footnote recanted his fraudulent theory long before Brian copied it into the footnotes... Stay tuned.

The original source of a footnote that Brian Simmons plagiarized for one of his more bizarre footnotes had already effectively recanted his absurd position BEFORE The Passion Translation project began.
