ppl now tend to plan so so much esp in nyc but i find that the best parts of life are usually truly emergent. walks that become drinks. drinks that become dinner. dinner that becomes 2 a.m. somewhere you didn’t even expect. nyc has endless possibility, but somehow everyone has converted it into logistics. a city built for serendipity but kinda ruined by calendar invites.

When a toxic rumor starts spreading about you, it has nothing to do with people genuinely believing it. Society wants you to think people are just hateful, gullible, or easily manipulated. Society is wrong! You’re watching a primitive tribal instinct play out in real time. The toxic gossiper fires first & everyone who joins is not looking for truth, but for social unity. If you never understand that, you will hand them your confidence without a fight. That mob is always designed to tear down the strongest person in the room. Psychology calls this the bandwagon effect or collective cowardice. They don’t actually hate you, they’re actually just terrified of being the next target.

one of my old psychiatrist's absolute greatest hits: the closer someone is to you, the more you treat them as you treat yourself. it's as though they eventually enter the sphere of your inner world. we have to stop being cruel to ourselves or we will be cruel to others, in time. i don't make the rules and i don't obey them and my loved ones have paid the price.

This is free advice from an expensive psychologist. If you’re an anxious person, do everything for fun. Go to a job interview for fun. Submit documents for fun. Start a blog for fun. Anxiety feeds on importance. Don’t make everything a matter of life and death.

We need to start shaming people for their lack of empathy, for their inability to listen without dismissing, for finding humor in someone else's pain, for being loud about their opinions but silent about injustice, for only caring when it affects them personally. We need to start shaming indifference, shaming the pride in ignorance, shaming the casual cruelty that hides behind “it's not my problem” Because a society that normalizes apathy slowly forgets what it means to be human.
