I married my cousin. We had crushes on each other as kids, started dating as teens, and eventually fell in love. When our families found out, they completely lost it and demanded we end things. We didn't. At 19, we packed our bags, moved somewhere it was legal, and got married. Both sides of the family cut us off. We decided not to have children, partly to avoid the risks and drama. Years later, we're still together, still in love, and still keeping it a secret from almost everyone in our lives. Sometimes I wonder: If two consenting adults are happy and hurting nobody, should family approval matter?
