@ThomasKoleTA I hope the full resolution one is made just as public. The up-close renders could be really useful--- imagine somebody writing a slice of life set in the city, they can follow the model to see what routes a character might take from home to the calmecac, etc. Not easy in low res.

Better question: Matthew Restall shows that the fall of the Aztec Empire is really an empire sort of folding in on itself with the center of control shifting from one city to another and there are Aztec victors in that war... great... but then after 1521 how is it that the Spaniards are able to stay? Why isn't there some kind of reckoning and they all get killed and thrown out? I have read a lot about this, but nothing I have read actually meets the demand of the question. I have yet to see a rigorous account that follows the aftermath through, since the literature keeps circling the point and never specifies who did what, where, and when to make Spanish presence durable. It is clear that at some point the indigenous labor regimes dissolve and death is everywhere, yet the texture of how that unfolds is left vague, the record goes silent on the sequence and the levers.

@caritas_et @Majora__Z @jacobpking It isn't labor intensive at all, it's just that mostly the fancy stuff survived. Here's an example of someone journaling in it today. There is debate about how literate the average person was, but it's very vibes based. Nobody knows.

@Majora__Z @nise_yoshimi Regarding image 4, there is a theory that the Nuremberg map was a botched composite of two maps of the surrounding city and the sacred precinct, it explains why the sacred precinct is upside down. If you're doing the green line thing as a visual, consider fixing the orientation.

@AbbasiJuan @RafaelmenaI @Arqueomex_ How do you mean declined? Their recent facsimile editions are excellent. I only subscribed to them this year and have really enjoyed it! I was as disappointed as anyone to see the ai image, but in general their stuff seems better than ever imo.
