The new Liberal talking point that Canadians “vote for the person, not the party” might be one of the worst pieces of political advice Mark Carney has received yet. Yes, we elect a candidate. But that candidate represents a party, policies, and values voters are choosing between. If we truly voted only for individuals, Liberals would regularly elect Conservatives and vice versa. They know that isn’t how it works. They know taxpayers know that too… which is why this latest attempt to gaslight and insult the intelligence of Canadian citizens might make for an interesting turn of events—one where we could very well see Mark Carney to be more disliked than Justin Trudeau towards the end of his tenure.

Excellent question, the answer however is simple. It is not up to federal leaders to strengthen a coalition, it's up to the voters. MP crossings should trigger a by-election, regardless of which party benefits.
