**Summary of Cody Campbell’s statement on Brendan Sorsby:**
Texas Tech followed all NCAA protocols with full transparency and cooperation. The school had no prior knowledge of his gambling issues. Brendan took full responsibility and the university supported his treatment for gambling addiction.
The lawsuit seeking reinstatement was filed by Brendan himself—not Texas Tech.
Brendan will **not** be part of the Texas Tech football team this fall. The university will continue supporting his recovery and will not seek return of any NIL payments already made.
Campbell stresses the need for college sports reform and supports the Protect College Sports Act of 2026.
Long Live the Matadors!
Wisconsin, Purdue, Virginia Tech and Michigan State all looking for presidents and athletic directors.
Purdue and Michigan State ADs literally left because their presidents left. That tells you how important institutional alignment is in 2026.
"It's time for Spartan Nation to quit talking and start doing."
Tom Izzo calls for change at Michigan State after the departure of MSU President Kevin Guskiewicz and AD J Batt.
@wilxTVwilx.com/2026/06/15/rep…
Strong Tom Izzo comments, which reflect recent controversies with MSU’s Board of Trustees.
“I can’t stand what’s going on. I’ve had it…… We’ve just lost the best president that may have ever been here, one of the best….I’m very upset about it. I’m sick of it….. What happened with our president…was ridiculous…… I’m ashamed, I’m disgusted. Hurt.”
I don't think I've ever advocated for something like this, but at MSU it makes sense. He's loved there. Likely okay with giving up coaching. It would stabilize the dept and donor/fan base while board tries to get things figured out.
If I'm MSU board chair, I'd seriously consider asking Tom Izzo to become the AD for an extended period of time until a president is hired. I suspect Palumbo, House, etc. will go with Batt to Kentucky, but who knows. Get the president search done first. Izzo can manage changes.
Sunday thoughts after watching NASCAR earlier: How long until a college athletic department just says they want more than the one sponsor patch or they want a larger patch for their sponsor to increase revenue? And they just decide to do it.
@FoundersPodcast Creativity, Inc was one of the first business books I read that made me realize I actually could love to read books...excited to listen to this episode on my neighborhood walks today and tomorrow.
@thesamparr I feel like you referenced a Ted Turner book on the pod. Was it "Call Me Ted?" - I have a niche independent media brand and looking for nonfiction bios about people or companies and wondering if that was the one
@ajv Are you the same as your beother regarding future fandom? I feel like he said he stops being a diehard fan when his underdog team wins a championship. I watched IU football for 20+ years and things now feel different heading into next season.
@Genetics56 Makes me think Spartan Ventures is dead in the water but who knows. J can go do the same vision at UK with an aligned board probably. And everyone seems to think/know the UK CFO is the next president.
There’s no reason for him to leave…yet at least. Not until a president is hired. It’s not like Clemson AD job is opening anytime this decade either. Plus he has built out his own team at MSU. It would need to be a bad pres hire, IMO, for him to leave anytime soon.

“My understanding is he’s still on board.”
MSU Board of Trustees chair Brianna Scott says it’s been business as usual for MSU AD J Batt, even if the departure of Kevin Guskiewicz slashes his buyout in half.

At this year's Brand Innovation Summit, @DudePerfect CEO Andrew Yaffe challenged teams and leagues to think more like creators 💡
He argued that some of the biggest content opportunities don't come from new assets, but from finding new ways to use the assets teams already have.

Sometimes it's important to take a different mindset when evaluating a coaching candidate for your department. For @FSAthletics + @KlassyDogs, it's thinking like a business owner: "Now, with the change of the House settlement, they have a dollar amount on the scholarships they pass out and that's determined on out-of-state, international, in-state kids. You have to be able to be a great budget manager."
Plus, Klassy wants to maintain control over head coaching hires: "can't see myself ever giving up the responsibility of hiring head coaches. ... I don't feel like you can have a strong athletic department if it's just the AD holding people accountable. I need student-athletes holding us accountable."
