Don't make him the interim. Try to get him to be the permanent AD for at least 2-3 years. Get the president hire right first.

I don't think I've ever advocated for something like this, but at MSU it makes sense. He's loved there. Likely okay with giving up coaching. It would stabilize the dept and donor/fan base while board tries to get things figured out.

If I'm MSU board chair, I'd seriously consider asking Tom Izzo to become the AD for an extended period of time until a president is hired. I suspect Palumbo, House, etc. will go with Batt to Kentucky, but who knows. Get the president search done first. Izzo can manage changes.

Sunday thoughts after watching NASCAR earlier: How long until a college athletic department just says they want more than the one sponsor patch or they want a larger patch for their sponsor to increase revenue? And they just decide to do it.

There’s no reason for him to leave…yet at least. Not until a president is hired. It’s not like Clemson AD job is opening anytime this decade either. Plus he has built out his own team at MSU. It would need to be a bad pres hire, IMO, for him to leave anytime soon.
