@Heminator I'm an American and I went to Bass Pro Shop to get a fishing rod. There was literally about 80,000 fishing rods to choose from. My head just about exploded.

I remember those Fenway urinal troughs from the 1970s. Back then, they were selling beers for about 75 cents and the vendors in the stands were even selling them to kids (I only know because I was able to buy them). Only other place I saw them was in Parris Island at Marine Corps boot camp.

I remember standing in such a line at summer camp in 1975 for a hot dog and a cold can of birch beer - my favorite at the time. My parents would deposit "snack" money for me when dropping me off at camp. I can still remember my buddy tag hanging on the board by the swimming pool area. This was the camp's way of making sure every swimmer was accounted for.

@Pro__Trading I believe multiple canals and pipelines are already under construction by neighboring countries. Once that is done, the Hormuz Strait becomes mostly irrelevant with regard to oil shipments from the Persian Gulf region.

What's gonna be the most damaging to Iran in the long-term is the world now is going to work to find a way to not ever be held hostage by Iran again with respect to oil shipping. Don't be surprised if Gulf Coast nations build a canal that allows them to avoid the strait of Hormuz altogether. Once that happens, Iran will cease to exist economically.

I know what they are. I have long hair myself that needs tying back. This woman was obviously coached by her lawyer to adopt the “vulnerable little girl” look in a pathetic attempt to to influence the judge and jurors. Pam Smart did something similar in her murder trial around the same time period.

I was shocked at how little I spend in retirement compared to what I projected I would need while I was working. I don’t feel like I’m living frugally but I go to a lot more local diners instead of high end restaurants, I get most of my food from local farms and cook it at home. A perfect day for me is a hike in the woods and sitting on my porch with a good book. Whatever I feel I need, I just buy it so I don’t feel that I’m being denied in any way. I just don’t need as much as I thought I would. Turns out I could have retired years earlier but I was taken in by all those personal finance gurus saying you needed all these millions of dollars saved up. They were wrong. Very wrong,

@SeaGoat_DSG @bryndensraven I thought it was common knowledge too. But there are about a million posts on X today from hysterical women who are apparently deeply shocked that men have been taking their daughters into the men's room - with those...those urinals!

Some companies actually do a good job with taking human interaction out of customer service. Amazon a case in point. When I want to return an item I ordered because it didn't fit right or something, I just click on the website and a barcode is sent to my phone. I then just drop the item off at a place like Kohls, show them the bar code, and I'm done. I don't even have to repackage the item. By the time I get back to the parking lot, my refund is posted. I sort of like that compared to how it used to be, when you would stand in line at the customer service desk with a bunch of other schmucks for about a half hour, only to be told that you can only get a store credit. So now you have to go back in the store and try and find something that fits. Then go stand in line all over again to rebuy it.

I bought a new pair of pants from Kohls the other day and liked them so much I went back the next day to get another pair just like them. As I was trying the new ones on to make sure they fit, I realized that I had come into the store wearing the pants I just bought yesterday. As I went to the checkout to pay for the new pair, I was a bit paranoid they might think I was stealing the pair I was wearing because they still looked so new.

@travelingflying He should let somebody with a camera live stream him for an entire day. Not that I don't believe he works that many hours but it would be pretty awesome to see all the things he has to deal with in a typical day. People might have a better appreciation for all that he does.

Today's peace deal was signed at the palace of Versailles in France. When Italy has a formal event or state dinner it is held at the Palazzo Quirinale in Rome When England has a state dinner, It's held at Buckingham Palace. When the United States has a formal event or state dinner, we have to install a tent on the White House lawn, put down a floor, (which ruins all the grass which has to be replanted) and bring in tables and chairs with concomitant labor costs. This is why a White House ballroom is long overdue.

Somewhere in my basement are a few cardboard boxes jammed with VHS cassettes that I laborously recorded movies on from HBO. I would try to fit two movies on each cassette. I imagined that I was amassing a valuable film library that I would explore for the rest of my life and then pass down to my children. To date, I have never watched a single film from that library and just thinking about it breaks my heart a little.
