It seems like magic!
Also works for increasing the phase range of adaptive optics!
Check out this video if you want to be walked through the preprint. youtube.com/watch?v=qO1nen…

NEW PREPRINT: For 2-photon imaging (or any laser scanning), fast scanning often shrinks the field-of-view and/or decreases resolution.
Che-Hang Yu found a bunch of ways to increase the field-of-view, with no trade-offs in speed or resolution. 1/2

Fantastic work (as always) from Che-Hang Yu and colleagues in Spencer Smith's lab @Labrigger. Neat method to increase scan speed and/or FOV in 2p microscopy. Commercially available from @pacificoptica . I'd love to build this for a client at some point! biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
This is actually fun. Try it!
Your preprint -> AI-generated fake podcast -> video with actual human commentary -- It's remarkably effective!
Awesome optics work to unlock big-and-fast in vivo two-photon calcium imaging, by Che-Hang Yu.

The Ventana SL and Ventana TL are now available. pacificoptica.com/ventana/ This is a new standard in scan engine optics. Nothing else comes close. These optics enable diffraction-limited imaging over a huge field-of-view. They're easy to integrate into your systems.
I'm on social media to share with technical communities in neuro, optics, computation, ML, etc. I don't need a free-for-all platform with the potential to reach millions.
Mastodon is a good fit for me. (2/3)
I have new posts and whatnot here:
neuromatch.social/@sls
I'm on mastodon because it's simple, clean, open, and a community. It's not perfect, but there's no profit-driven algorithm.
Bluesky is nice from what I hear, but it could easily run into the same issues. (1/3)
The Nemonic discussion group (Slack-like Mattermost interface) is a nice place to ask questions and share info for 2p neuro and related topics. Join here or message me. 2p.ece.ucsb.edu/signup_user_co…
I'm excited about this. If your experiments benefit from having a large field-of-view scanned fast at high resolution, this is beyond anything else out there. It's ready to go. If you want in early, email me and we'll let you know the details. No pressure. It's just very cool.
Here are a couple of shots of one of our new products. Unlocking the widest fast scanning ever. Looking forward to sharing more about this new tech! pacificoptica.com See more. Measure more.
2¹³⁶²⁷⁹⁸⁴¹−1, discovered today, is the largest known prime. It's a Mersenne prime (2ᵖ-1), which are easier to find.
It took nearly 6 years for the GIMPS software to find it after the previous largest known prime. It was also the first Mersenne prime found using GPUs.
We grieve the passing of Dr. Yves Frégnac.
Yves has shaped the study of cortical processing and plasticity. He heralded interdisciplinarity and was one of the founding fathers of our institute.
Our thoughts go to his family and to his friends in the community and beyond.
