After unprecedented amounts of rainfall drenching parts of Manitoba, the sky embraced the earth over PR 416 in Interlake-Gimli yesterday. (Photo by @InterlakePC) Thousands of Manitobans are dealing with damaged homes, destroyed farmland, washed-out roads, and the stress of thinking just how much this is all going to cost. But even in the bleakest, dreariest of times, there is hope. From the Interlake to the Parklands, neighbours have stepped up to help neighbours, families have shown incredible resilience, and local leaders—from reeves to firefighters to farmers—have answered the call to action. Manitobans have stepped up for Manitobans. The provincial government has now activated disaster financial assistance for all Manitobans affected by this week’s severe flooding. While this is only the beginning, I’d like to thank Premier Kinew for taking this important first step. As Manitoba’s Official Opposition, Progressive Conservatives will work with the NDP government to ensure that the Province remains a reliable, effective, and responsible partner in the clean-up, rebuilding, and recovery process. If you’re having trouble connecting with supports, I encourage you to contact your MLA. We will get through this together.
Views from the Interlake/Lakeside region today. Communities across Manitoba are looking at widespread damage to highways, homes, and livelihoods after last night’s storms. These repairs will require significant provincial investments — in addition to what’s needed in the Swan Valley. The premier’s go-to response that he will give “whatever resources are needed” simply is not good enough. The people of Steinbach know this all too well after being hit with 2 months of rain in September. The city begged for disaster aid. Kinew said no, people should’ve had insurance. This came after the Kinew government slashed emergency funding by over $52 million since 2024. I am urging Premier Wab Kinew to provide tangible, measurable commitments for municipalities to recover and rebuild their communities. Our Progressive Conservative MLAs, who represent most of these storm-ravaged municipalities, are ready to work collaboratively with the premier and his NDP in any way we can to see this through. After such a chaotic week, Manitobans deserve to have some peace of mind. ‼️ Please follow your local municipalities/authorities and MLAs for continued updates, and visit the Manitoba Ready site for alerts and info.
Swan River MLA Rick Wowchuk wrote to the premier today calling for swift action to help residents of the flood-ravaged Swan Valley and Minitonas–Bowsman areas. After up to 150 mm of rain Sunday night, the region has seen widespread damage to highways, bridges, farmland, homes, and businesses. ”My constituents are looking for reassurances from their provincial government,” said Wowchuk. “We have communities that are entirely cut off from the outside world. We have heavily damaged roads and bridges that urgently need re-building. What is the province doing to expedite the repairs that are so desperately needed?” Since the widespread flash flooding struck Sunday night, residents have not been able to access their homes, businesses, and schools because of road washouts and high water. Communications have been hampered by the loss of cellphone service in the area, and gas and electricity has been cut off to some communities. “I’ve sent a letter to Premier Wab Kinew asking for direct intervention from him and his Transportation and Infrastructure Minister,” said Wowchuk. “Both have been missing in action since this emergency began.” “The premier was eager to promise funding and pose for photo ops of him tossing sandbags earlier this spring for a potential flood. Where is he when roads and bridges are washed out? Swan Valley is in trouble.” Meteorologists have called the storm that struck the Swan Valley a once-in-200-year event. Over 3,000 Manitoba Hydro customers are without power. The Municipalities of Minitonas-Bowsman and Swan Valley, as well as the Town of Swan River, have declared a state of emergency. A ruptured gas line in Minitonas forced the evacuation of nearby businesses and residents. The flash flooding will devastate the local agriculture industry and force some farmers to reseed their fields. As the water moves toward Swan Lake, high water levels are also putting livestock in extreme danger. “Residents of Swan Valley need to know the provincial government has their backs during this time of need,” said Wowchuk. “I’m calling on the premier to take immediate action to provide the resources needed to assess the situation and immediately begin the rebuilding effort across the region.”
Shameless. After delaying progress on PCs’ initiative to establish new specialty licence plates to support Manitoba parks, Wab Kinew is now re-announcing it as his own. To top it off: Wab’s environment minister mocked the idea just ONE WEEK AGO. In spring 2024, Riding Mountain MLA @gregnesbittpc introduced and passed a bill to establish specialty Manitoba licence plates whose proceeds go to revitalizing our provincial parks. After passing the bill, PCs worked to get the plates ready for summer 2025 and invited Manitobans to submit their designs. Nesbitt repeatedly tried collaborating with the NDP minister and his department, asking them to participate in design discussions and stakeholder outreach. Those offers were declined. Now Kinew is using taxpayer dollars redundantly on work that’s already been done, just to take credit. And instead of using designs submitted by the public, he’s opted for artwork created by bureaucrats. Kinew’s NDP can’t even let support for Manitoba parks be nonpartisan.
Buona festa della repubblica 🇮🇹🍝 Happy Italian Republic Day! @Cabotocentre serves as one of Manitoba’s most lively hubs of Italian-Canadian culture, right in the Fort Whyte constituency. Be sure to stop by the Italian Pavilion at Folklorama this year and see for yourself!
A big congrats to @KerryLynneFindl on becoming the Leader of BC’s Conservative Party and surely the next Premier of BC. From Manitoba to British Columbia, Western Canadians are ready to ditch NDP taxes & turmoil, and embrace a new era of common-sense conservatism. 🇨🇦
BC Conservative members, I am honoured and humbled to be chosen as your next leader of the BC Conservative Party. Thank you to every member who placed their trust in me. Together we will defeat the NDP and restore prosperity to British Columbia. Join me,
This week, while PC MLAs spent +30 continuous hours at the Legislature advocating for more affordability in the budget — not a single member on the NDP side got up to actually defend their budget on the record. But they had plenty to shout as our MLAs spoke, and even more so at PC Leader Obby Khan. Minister Nahanni Fontaine’s behaviour was particularly unbecoming. (None of the audio of her yelling is edited.) Earlier, she even decided to put on a movie in the chamber as PCs spoke about affordability. Manitobans may have also noticed that the NDP seem to be able to yell as loudly as possible without being called to order. 🤷♂️ But what Manitobans can hear loudest and clearest is that Progressive Conservatives will keep working to make life better for you.
If you support raising Manitoba’s basic personal exemption to $30,000, sign our petition! pcmbcaucus.com/raisethebpe
This morning, the Kinew NDP voted against providing real affordability to Manitoba families. Progressive Conservative Finance Critic Lauren Stone introduced a resolution to raise Manitoba’s basic personal exemption to $30,000. Today, one by one in a recorded vote, the NDP government voted against that resolution — which would have provided your family with up to $3,000 in tax savings every year.
Your PC MLAs just pulled an all-nighter at the Manitoba Legislature to demand meaningful affordability measures for you — and we’re still going. Progressive Conservatives have been debating the NDP’s budget implementation bill (aka BITSA) through the night, since Tuesday afternoon. “We’re urging Premier Wab Kinew and his NDP to adopt meaningful affordability measures in their budget bill,” said Opposition Leader Obby Khan (@obbykhan60). “For months, we’ve been calling on the NDP to double Manitoba’s Basic Personal Exemption to $30,000. That increase would save families up to $3,000 every year. That’s $250 per month. We will continue calling for this increase until Kinew and his NDP finally listen.” The NDP’s junk food PST cut would only save families less than $100 per year according to the government’s own estimates. Even so, Kinew can remove the tax as of July 1st without the budget bill if he wants to. “Manitoba families are suffering under the highest overall inflation and food inflation in Canada,” said PC Finance Critic Lauren Stone (@Stone_Midland). “The latest numbers from Statistics Canada show that the affordability crisis is getting worse in Manitoba. Inflation keeps going up in key categories like food and transportation. These are necessities many Manitobans can no longer afford under this NDP government.” PCs are vowing to continue to debate on behalf of Manitobans looking for affordability relief.
You can’t make this up… Today, we asked the Manitoba NDP to stay late into the evening to move their own budget bill forward. They said no. Mind you, this is the same budget bill that Wab Kinew says must pass by June 1st “or else.” I’ve said all along that PCs are ready to work with the NDP to ensure that their budget goes to a vote before the summer. We’ve also introduced a resolution that would save your family up to $3000 every year. If the NDP can’t even defend their own budget, why should Manitobans support it?
Why are we pushing so hard to raise the basic personal exemption? Because you work hard for your money. The spring Legislative sitting is set to end next Monday, June 1st. But Premier Wab Kinew is threatening to keep MLAs all summer—away from constituents—if PCs don’t stop pushing for stronger affordability measures. PCs are ready to work with the NDP to ensure that their budget bill goes to a vote before the summer if they consider our amendment for meaningful tax relief. Our proposal is to remove income tax off the first $30,000 you earn, saving your family up to $250 on every paycheque ($3000/year). If you make less than $30,000/year, that would mean you pay zero provincial income tax. This is a snippet from my 10-minute speech on the budget bill, urging the NDP to do what’s right for you.
Manitobans don’t elect MLAs to fight each other. They want us working together to find solutions. I’m once again urging Premier Wab Kinew to collaborate across party lines to address Manitoba’s affordability crisis. The premier does not need PCs to pass his budget to take PST off of Slurpees. He has a majority government. But families need more than pennies. That’s why Progressive Conservatives are calling to increase Manitoba’s basic personal exemption to $30,000. This move would save your family up to $250/month ($3000/year) on income taxes. For seniors, minimum-wage workers, and students making less than $30K in Manitoba, that means no more provincial income tax. Our PC MLAs are prepared to ensure that the NDP’s budget bill comes to a vote before the summer. All we’re asking for is the NDP to include a meaningful increase to the BPE.
This reminds me of last year when Kinew heckled “call me dad” during budget estimates. The premier’s bizarre way of deflecting accountability is actually embarrassing. x.com/MBPCcaucus/sta…
Here’s Wab Kinew making dog noises at Obby Khan, among other embarrassing behaviour. On Tuesday, Progressive Conservative Leader @obbykhan60 was asking Premier @WabKinew questions about the government’s budget and spending estimates. Unfortunately, Kinew is not a serious
In both peace and struggle, Ukrainians have confidently worn the vyshyvanka as an act of unity, remembrance, cultural pride, and resilience. This familiar symbol of identity speaks to the deep roots of the Ukrainian people in Manitoba’s heritage. Thank you to Joanne Lewandowski and @ukrcancongress for bringing Manitobans together this afternoon to celebrate Vyshyvanka Day. 🇺🇦🇨🇦
Manitoba has seen several violent home invasions over the last few months. Pukatawagan First Nation just last month was forced to go under lock down due to an armed home invasion. In September, Hollow Water First Nation witnessed a fatal stabbing rampage involving home break-ins by a perpetrator out on bail. Also last fall, Winnipeg saw armed attacks on an elderly couple in Garden City, as well as a home-based jewelry business in the Maples. That’s why Progressive Conservatives introduced a resolution urging Ottawa to amend the Criminal Code to clearly allow homeowners to use reasonable force to protect themselves and their families. Yesterday, Wab Kinew’s NDP rejected it. “This resolution calls for stronger protections for people defending their lives, the lives of their loved ones, and property,” said Borderland MLA Josh Guenter, who introduced the call. “Currently, self-defence is only argued in court after charges are laid, placing heavy emotional and financial burdens on victims of crime.” In recent cases, Canadians have faced serious charges after defending their homes: - In Lindsay, ON, a man who was charged with aggravated assault after stopping an armed intruder just had his charges dropped in Feb. 2026. - In Milton, ON, a homeowner charged with second-degree murder after shooting an armed intruder spent nine days in jail before charges were dropped five months later. “Homeowners should be able to use force—including deadly force—to repel home invaders trying to break into their homes and harm their loved ones,” said Guenter. “I’m disappointed that the NDP refused to support our common-sense PC resolution.” “The NDP’s soft-on-crime, catch-and-release bail policies are contributing to Manitoba’s crime epidemic.”
Here’s Wab Kinew making dog noises at Obby Khan, among other embarrassing behaviour. On Tuesday, Progressive Conservative Leader @obbykhan60 was asking Premier @WabKinew questions about the government’s budget and spending estimates. Unfortunately, Kinew is not a serious premier. This is just an example of his everyday behaviour. The Opposition’s job is to hold government accountable on how they choose to spend your tax dollars. So when the premier acts this way, Manitobans should remember: He’s laughing at YOU.
More embarrassing behaviour from Nahanni Fontaine — Supported by Wab Kinew. During Question Period on Thursday, PC Education Critic Wayne Ewasko raised concern about Winnipeg’s drug crisis reaching schoolyards. Teachers are resuscitating people on playgrounds. Children are

Big congrats to the @MJHLNighthawks on solidifying yourselves as Canada’s BEST Junior A hockey team 🏒☝️ The Nighthawks are the 4th team from Manitoba ever to take the Centennial Cup. So glad our Progressive Conservative team got to give these young men some much deserved recognition in the Legislature today, starting with Niverville’s own MLA Ron Schuler. Manitoba is once again proving to produce the best of the best.
Today I called on the Minister of Finance in an open letter to collaborate on meaningful tax relief for Manitoba families in their budget bill. Increasing the Basic Personal Exemption will save families $3000/year. Sign our petition if you agree: pcmbcaucus.com/2026/05/no-pro…
