@nerdimmersion I think because it's the same template! I don't mean that in a derogatory way, it's: take beloved IP, keep core themes and tropes, sprinkle some memes and humour (but not too much!) = movie that fans and non-fans can enjoy.
There's a whole tiresome trolling ecology on X that's just Americans slagging off British food and vice versa, and I think it's probably peaked as we're in the 'completely making shit up' phase 👇
It gets lost in the mix, but I'd put Skeleton Crew up there with decent Star Wars fare from Disney. My then 9 year-old thought it was great when it came out and he's been asking me for a rewatch!
Next project! Everyone has their megadungeon, right? Well, this is going to be my take (sort of) for the Basic/Expert system. You're looking at an adventure that's going to cover at least 5 character levels, but can be split easily into two distinct parts so if you want to skip the Basic (1-3) section, that's fine! It's going to be a hex-crawly adventure through a cave network (think Journey to the Centre of the Earth) for part 1 - a real spelunking feel with lots of interesting mini dungeons and encounters. Then part 2 is the main event dungeon - an entire lost ruined city! Verticality, monster factions, hoards of treasure and something deeply dangerous and ever present, lurking in the dark.... I hope to share more as things begin to take shape!

I think it's just that the in built audience for it is rather niche. The kids who watched He-Man are in their 40s and 50s now. It's not a kids film, there's a surprising amount of innuendo in it! It's a good movie, well constructed (the humour and memes don't overshadow the actual themes/plot) and I think Travis Knight is a great director who understands visual spectacle without it turning into visual noise (He proved that with Bumblebee). The issue is He-Man, despite a few animated reboot attempts, hasn't actually been a thing for 30 years. There's no younger generation that gives a shit.

Masters of the Universe was great fun. Think of it as being like the latest D&D movie. Humour and memes didn't overshadow the core premise, it worked! Also eating Highlander's lunch a little as Princes of the Universe shows up, so I guess that won't be in the new Highlander!
