New experiment: can one dev + AI build an entire fictional universe? Not an app. Not a SaaS. A universe — music, webcomic, browser game, all sharing one cyberpunk storyline. It's called VOX NULLA. The premise: a broadcast suppressed under error code 451 that refuses to die. The plan: - 7 tracks (Error Codes Vol. I) — first - Webcomic (The Vox Nulla Saga) — next - 2D action-platformer demo — after Everything AI-assisted: music, art, code, lore. There's no monetization plan and that's the point. Some things you build because the idea won't leave you alone. Link in reply.
I think mobile apps as we know them have maybe 3-5 years left. Not because phones disappear. Because building your own replacement got stupidly easy. Quick story. I'm learning English. Everyone says "use Anki." Cool. I open the App Store and the flashcard apps want $15-35/month for what's essentially a CRUD app with spaced repetition. One of them literally asked $35/mo. For digital index cards. So I asked Claude to build me a tiny web app instead. Login/password. No signup flow. No onboarding. No "upgrade to Pro." Just decks, cards, and the browser's built-in speech synthesis for pronunciation. Later I added a "type a phrase, GPT checks it" feature for active recall. Deployed on Vercel. MongoDB on my DigitalOcean droplet I already had. Added it to the iPhone home screen as a PWA. Looks and feels like an app. My wife and I have been using it daily for a month. Total cost: ~$2/month. No subscriptions. No ads. No "we updated our privacy policy." Features I actually want. UI I actually like. Data that's mine. And here's the thing — this isn't impressive anymore. A year ago this would've been a weekend project. Now it's an evening. Soon it'll be "hey Claude, build me X" and you're done. The App Store model assumes building software is hard. That assumption is dying. The weird part: while I'm writing this, I'm also trying to ship a porn-blocker app to the App Store. Hoping to make a bit of money before everyone just builds their own.
