@LFC_UK_MVK @mookiealexander So yes there is a body type for soccer. There are exceptions just like there are exceptions for short Basketball players, abnormal football players for position and some stunning small hockey players.

@LFC_UK_MVK @mookiealexander I believe I specifically said someone else not you. But this is the silliness this conversation invites and produces. This idea that "Hey our good athletes regardless of body type would CRUSH in soccer" and no there are a large % that would not.

@LFC_UK_MVK @mookiealexander A lot of your athletes who play other sports would still be heavy though. Better team if Soccer was your primary sport? Yes but there are people who think Shaq would dominate at soccer and the answer is no, there is a body type that soccer selects to.

@DarylMoreysDad @ArchysLife For whatever reason (truthfully I cannot speculate on it) women's Hockey and Soccer are the sports we actually fund. As such despite our not especially large population we tend to do pretty decent.

@DarylMoreysDad @ArchysLife Stunningly your parity of spending on women's sports is way higher than the rest of the world still. Keep in mind Canada where I'm from is "good" at women's soccer and we are ass at men's soccer until very recently for basically the same reason.

@DarylMoreysDad @ArchysLife Everyone is aware that a country would improve their soccer talent pool if they 1) were interested to the point of primacy and 2) spent money. You aren't going to find the soccer fan who thinks the US sucks at soccer being of some intangible item.

@JohnAmmen @24thminute No soccer fan objects to the idea that a focus on soccer would produce a better team USA. of course it would. But the take tends to be WE WOULD WIN EVERYTHING and no. Some athletes are not suited to soccer and would not translate.
