It is genuinely rare to see such support for a resigned Cabinet minister from across the entire spectrum, including current and former political opponents, internal Labour critics of the Starmer administration, ex-military bosses and foreign allies. In fact, the only criticism levelled at Healey today has been from his old enemies at the Treasury (via @e_casalicchio). A fitting tribute.

Let's clear some of this @hmtreasury confusion up for them. Welfare budget is 330bn. Over 4 years that's 1.4trn. Defence are asking for an 'additional' 28bn *over 4 years* (to cover agreed plans). The Treasury are not run by serious people if they can't find 28 out of 1,400...

What utter crap.
John Healey is a genuine, loyal, hardworking politician. He was an excellent Defence Minister. However. I think his resignation is poor. Sure, he may have shown principle for his beliefs. However, resignation is not the way to show it. The shame is on those that run, not stay.

If the DIP is not properly funded, then we go in to the NATO summit as one of the weakest nations, both on rearming and leadership. An absolutely wild collapse of hard and soft power in these last 2 years.
