Children learn best when new knowledge is introduced in a logical sequence, builds on what they already know, and is practised until it becomes secure.
How do you structure learning at home or in your classroom?
Every child deserves to feel understood. Neurodivergent children often thrive when learning becomes personalised and flexible.
Education should recognise differences, not punish them.
Fast doesn’t always mean better.
Mastery means:
- Understanding concepts deeply
- Applying knowledge confidently
- Learning from mistakes
- Building skills that last
Learning isn’t a race.
Not every child learns in the same way and they shouldn’t be expected to.
I am a visual and a reading/ writing learner. I have to write out what I have learnt, reading and seeing isn’t enough. Typing it out doesn’t work either - HAS to be pen to paper.
How do you learn?
@BrightMelloy@Nithya_Shrii Valid point- but they can create a version of it. In high school we had entrepreneurship day whereby we learnt how to buy/ sell, create etc.
@Vertok55@matthewdmarsden I worked in schools where children as young as 5 had their own phones. As soon as the parents picked up their child they handed them their phones. Didn’t even make it out of the building!
@c3nsor3dcitizen@jenteach13@matthewdmarsden I understand the ban- I think it’s a move in the right direction. However will children find a way around it ? - Yes. The recent ID implementation on Apple phones has meant children are figuring out how to change accounts and adding parent/ elder sibling IDs into their devices.
@jenteach13@matthewdmarsden Yes, I have seen parents take away their child’s phone as punishment but allow laptop use for homework. The same apps are on the laptop. ms.
When a child feels pressured, their brain isn’t focused on learning. It’s easy to assume that more pressure will produce better results, but often the opposite is true.
Children need to feel secure enough to take risks, ask questions and keep trying when things feel difficult.
