Everyone knows quantum computers will break Bitcoin. But how do you measure their progress? It’s measured qubits. And estimates for the required number of qubits to crack Bitcoin have dropped from 1 billion to under 10,000.
Progress = (hardware advancements * software advancements) Hardware progress is slow and expensive. Algorithmic progress is faster, cheaper, and AI-accelerated. Recent jumps in Shor’s algorithm efficiency came from AI-enabled software advancements. Advancements that used to require a whole research career now occur every model release.
