جب ہم تنخواہ دار کی بات کرتے ہیں تو ہمارے ذہن میں ایک غریب، بے چارہ اور مشکل سے گزر بسر کرنے والے شخص کی شبیہ ابھرتی ہے۔ لیکن بے شمار ایسے لوگ بھی ہیں جن کی تنخواہیں کروڑوں میں ہیں۔ اس لئیے تنخواہ کا سارا ٹیکس غریبوں سے جمع کیا ہوا نہیں ہے ان میں امیر تنخواہ دار بھی شامل ہیں۔ دوسری طرف یقین کیجئیے، ایسے بے شمار لوگ ہیں جو گھر، گاڑیاں، کھانے، سفر، مہنگے ہوٹلوں میں رہنا اپنی کمپنی کے خرچے پر کرتے ہیں اور ان کی اپنی تنخواہ صرف تین، چار لاکھ روپے ماہانہ ہے،لہذا تنخواہ میں لاچار نظر آنے والے ضروری نہیں کسمپرسی کی زندگی گزار رہے ہوں۔ مسئلہ یہ ہے کہ ہمارا ذہن تسلیم ہی نہیں کر سکتا کہ تنخواہ زیادہ بھی ہو سکتی ہے۔

What I Am About to Say May Not Feel Right, But It Is Economically Correct The debate over the new minimum wage of around Rs 41,000 is being driven largely by emotions. People ask: “How can anyone survive on this income?” While that concern is understandable, economic policy should not be evaluated solely on emotions. It must be assessed on economic principles. In a market economy, wages are primarily determined by productivity and the forces of supply and demand. Governments intervene through minimum wage laws to protect low-income workers from exploitation. That is a legitimate objective. However, if the minimum wage is pushed significantly above what businesses can sustainably afford, the result may be fewer jobs, reduced hiring, greater informality, and pressure on small businesses. A wage that exists on paper but leads to unemployment does not help workers. The real challenge is balancing worker protection with job creation. Stabilization deserves more recognition than it is receiving. Every political government faces public pressure to deliver rapid growth, but attempts to accelerate growth too quickly often widen the current account deficit and eventually force the country back to the IMF. Pakistan certainly needs higher growth, but at this stage the priority should be sustaining macroeconomic stability. If the economy can navigate this difficult period while maintaining growth of around 3% to 4%, that should be viewed as a positive outcome. Further, although, GDP figures can be manipulated by using different tactics and assumptions, however, one achievement that is much harder to manipulate is the reduction in the budget deficit. That is a tangible indicator of fiscal improvement and should not be overlooked.

This tendency to generalize and occasionally rely on interpretations that do not fully account for the mechanics of economics and public finance can sometimes lead to conclusions that officials consider incomplete.
