Let’s be clear about what the Trump Administration is trying to do. There are more than 65,000 TSA officers who keep our airports safe every single day, and they still don't receive the same basic pay, protections, and worker rights as other federal employees. These are the people that worked without a paycheck for 76 days during the government shutdown. So what is the Trump Administration trying to do? Revoke their union contract and the benefits they fought tooth and nail for. Federal employees should have the right to organize, to negotiate a livable wage, to access affordable child care, and to earn the sick and medical leave they deserve. I introduced an amendment today to make sure no money is used to strip these officers of theirs.

Trump isn’t giving up on trying to pay the January 6 rioters. His own Justice Department put in writing that plans for the $1.8 billion “weaponization fund” wouldn’t move forward. Trump’s response was to go on national television and say, “I love the idea,” and that rioters “should be compensated.” Once again, the President is on television saying one thing and his own Justice Department is saying another. The police officers who defended the Capitol that day are still waiting for justice, and Trump is hellbent on finding ways to pay the people who attacked them. I am the proud parent of two kids in Title I public schools. I see every day what that funding means. It means smaller class sizes, more counselors, tutors, teachers’ aides, and a real shot at success for kids who would otherwise get left behind. Our children and our children’s children are counting on us to get this right.

This is unacceptable. The United States just received a C-rating on maternal mental health, and not a single state in the country earned an A. We also received an F on parental support, which measures things like paid leave and affordable child care. How can we claim to be the greatest nation in the world if we are failing mothers and their children from day one? Republicans said we couldn't afford to extend health care tax credits for 20 million Americans. Today, they passed $70 billion for ICE with no accountability, no reforms, and no help from Democrats. ICE was created to protect national security. This is a blank check not to fulfill its original mission but to keep doing whatever it wants, to whoever it wants, with no consequences. I voted NO.

There’s a reason that doctors tell you to get your flu vaccine each and every year. The flu virus changes. So every year, scientists track which strains are spreading around the world, produce hundreds of millions of doses, and get them into pharmacies before flu season hits. It is a complex, coordinated process that has protected this country for decades. RFK Jr. fired every single scientist who served on the committee that has provided vaccine recommendations for generations. For the first time in six decades, there is no functioning vaccine advisory committee to provide them. He is dismantling the science that keeps our families safe.

For 26 years, Oceanside has been asking the federal government for one thing: a real plan to bring back the sand our coastline keeps losing. As of this month, we finally have it.    When I got to Congress in 2019, the study meant to address this was dead. Stalled out, with no path forward and no money behind it. I went to work, securing a provision in federal law requiring the Army Corps to finish the study, and when there was no funding to do the work, I secured more than $4 million so the Corps would have the resources to get it done.    This month, that fight paid off. First, Elias Irizarry stormed the U.S. Capitol on January 6. Then he was convicted for his role in the attack. Then he was pardoned by President Trump. And now, the Trump Administration has appointed him to work in the most sensitive counterterrorist office at the Pentagon, on the team that handles hostage rescue, embassy security, and classified special operations. Pentagon staff alarmed by this appointment are speaking out anonymously because they are afraid of retaliation for telling the truth. This is entirely unacceptable. What if I told you that conspiring to steal a presidential election is now a pardonable offense — as long as you were doing it for Donald Trump? Rudy Giuliani was ordered by a jury to pay nearly $150 million to Georgia election workers he lied about on national television. Mark Meadows was indicted in Arizona as part of an 18-person plot to overturn that state's results. Trump pardoned both of them, then called their prosecutions “a grave national injustice.” The message is clear: to Trump, personal loyalty is worth more than the Constitution. There is nowhere on Earth quite like the coast of Southern California. The ocean, the beaches, the lagoons, the surf breaks — they are the heart of our communities, our economy, and our way of life. That is why I have fought so hard against this Administration’s push to open these waters to offshore drilling. Republican or Democrat, the people here at home do not want us drilling in these waters. Our military does not want us drilling in these waters. We have seen what spills do to these shores and the communities that depend on them. Trump has weaponized the Justice Department to do one thing: go after his enemies. His latest target is E. Jean Carroll, the woman a jury found him liable for sexually abusing, and whom a second jury ordered him to pay $83 million for spending years publicly defaming. Think about that. The man a jury found liable for sexual abuse is using the Justice Department to prosecute his accuser. This is an abuse of power, plain and simple.
