That being said I totally bringing clock into D&D, it's just a perfect mechanic for TRPGs in general - able to give gameplay construct into abstract problem!

If you're not frustrated with your game of choice yet, that's great! continue on! If you do try new games, don't immediately use their aspects to 'fix' other games. Learn what each game excel. Every TRPG is a work of art in their own way. Find ones that suit your wants the best

@KevinPetker D&D's simple core help me teach my friends play. Convincing them to bother to learn other RPG is a wall I haven't been able to climb through. If I want to play other RPG, I'd go to an established RPG community I didn't stand up against you, just saying its an uphill battle

But if you break down and compare game mechanics, DnD is indeed the simplest; roll a d20, high result good. You have hit points, which have been used by countless games Theres no hard mechanic for exploration and social interaction as players can just use common sense

For a player, the most complicated thing they have to learn is spellcasting and action economy. They said a games is dictated by its mechanics, but D&D doesn't have any thematic mechanic. Most of its mechanic is tool for action resolution If its not a simple game then what is?

Your gm is not a content machine for you - they are as much a player as you are

Compared to a video game, playing live dnd game is lot more restricted. You can't play anytime you want. When the game does happen usually you don't nearly have as much time to play. I KNOW players realize this too, and thus included in the invisible social contract

Seeing a post before saying how a open world style #DnD game is strictly better style than narrative (and by narrative I suspect they meant railroad). Know this: players can still have fun in a rail roady game

@jamesjhaeck Yes. Honestly an adventure module never provide everything you really need to run a decent game. I always to have to make extra work connect the module to other part of the adventure, to hook the party, to make sure the encounter is exciting, etc

Dota 2 (netflix) : probably the closest to the dnd fantasy, dragon knights utilize plethora of magic and oversized sword to fly around dodging dragon attack and actually cut them. Monster Hunter : hunters have truly oversized weapon to harm their huge opponents while dodging

Some lesson from popular media: Castlevania (netflix) : most battles are against humanoid size opponents but Trevor does fight against Death in the end. He mainly fight using ranged attack (exploding whip) and only for the deathblow he use the dagger to end Death

Dnd on higher level: i cant believe huge and bigger creatures can be represented by the default stat block. Its hard to imagine your fighter exchanges attack rolls with giants and tarrasques.

I am also considering a newbie game using only the char art and personality boxes for the players to focus on..hmm
