That we are forced to endure people blasting music over such moments of national significance is indicative of our wider problem. It is - quite obviously - preposterously antisocial and rude, but we just allow it to continue with a shrug as if there is nothing we can do about it.
The double standards from the Prime Minister are glaring. When Henry Nowak was stabbed to death, Keir Starmer stayed silent until he was pressured into making a statement by speaker of the house Lindsay Hoyle. This disgusting attack in Edinburgh happens, and there's a statement the next day. Both incidents were appalling acts of violence with no place on our streets. Victims deserve the same level of leadership and condemnation, regardless of who they are. This inconsistency is part of the reason Britain is more divided than ever.
Absolutely appalling. No one should face violence on our streets. The suspect appears to be motivated by anti-Muslim hatred. I will not tolerate this - he will face the full force of the law. My thoughts are with those who are injured and I thank the police and the emergency
The last sentence is the real meat and potatoes of this. What's being promoted as a 'social media ban for children', is really an ID check for every adult.
🚨 SUMMARY: The UK's social media ban for children from early 2027: - "User-to-user" apps where people create, share and interact with content (e.g. TikTok, Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube, X, Facebook) will be banned for under-16s - WhatsApp, Signal and YouTube Kids will be
Here’s the problem. The liberal political class wants us to treat atrocities like Belfast as single, random, isolated incidents. “Yes, it’s horrific, but don’t overreact,” they say. “Let the police do their job. Justice will be delivered. Let’s remain united,” and so on. But the public can see that such incidents *aren’t* random or isolated. They are, in fact, all the consequence of massive state failure in the area of asylum and immigration. All roads lead back there. That’s why people are angry.. They are sick of the platitudes that get trotted out after each fresh incident. They don’t want to hear them anymore. They know that the decisions of establishment politicians have brought us to this current pass, and they don’t trust those same politicians to fix things, especially when some of them refuse to even recognise that the public’s anger is justified. There has been a huge vibe shift in recent years. Imagine - God forbid - there were another 7/7. Does anyone think the public response would be anything like as restrained as it was then? We are in really dangerous territory. The public don’t want flowers and candles and “Don’t let them divide us.” They want someone who says, “I recognise that the state has failed abjectly. We have allowed far too many people to settle in the country without knowing who they truly are. It has disrupted your communities. Your anger is justified. And I will do everything in my power to put things right.” Any politician unwilling to articulate that message, fully and sincerely, is effectively sanctioning more years of growing social disharmony and discord. Things cannot heal until those in power recognise the extent of the problem and what it will take to fix it. And, on both counts, most of them don’t. That’s why the next few years are going to be very, very turbulent.
Er - A 5 year old likely knows the kind of ‘alien culture’ that Jim refers to here. The fact our politicians pretend not to know and/or be more concerned by the words, sums up a massive problem with our politics and is a large part of the reason we are in the mess we currently are… - - - - - - - Jim Allister: "What will be done to stop the importation of an alien culture that thinks it's appropriate to try and behead someone?" Hilary Benn: "I'm sorry the honourable gentleman used the term 'alien culture', because what exactly is he referring to?"
This is simply not true @Keir_Starmer. You absolutely DO tolerate abhorrent scenes of violence like this attack. Just like you tolerate all the rapes and sexual assaults of women and girls by illegal migrants. You - and most of the political class - decided long ago that these crimes are a price worth paying in return for achieving your multicultural, diverse, open bordered nirvana. So don't pretend to be shocked and don't wring your hands in sadness. This is the predictable (and predicted) result of the policies YOU support.
The horrific attack in Belfast last night is sickening. I have absolutely no tolerance for abhorrent scenes of violence like this on our streets. My thoughts are first and foremost with the victim, and I thank the first responders, including members of the public who
Er … Firefighters in Manchester who support Reform UK have been cautioned over their views by bosses. And staff are being urged to snitch on colleagues who express support for Reform. so when Starmer said “Free speech is one of the founding values of the United Kingdom, and we protect it jealously and fiercely and always will.” … that was just disinformation 🤡
Senior figures at Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, under the command of Andy Burnham, have cautioned firefighters who support Reform UK over their political views. In a further chilling assault on free speech, staff have also effectively been urged in an email to report colleagues who support Reform. Fire brigade bosses have also said they are seeking legal advice on what to do about firefighters who decide to stand as Reform UK candidates. This is despite the fact that, unlike police officers, there is no legal bar preventing firefighters from participating in national or local politics. In their email, fire brigade bosses Mr Petch and Ms Ahmed said: ’We are aware that some staff members have chosen to represent Reform UK in their local areas. We know this may cause concern within our network and wider. ’The individuals involved have been spoken to, to make it clear that as members of GMFRS (Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service) our core values and professional behaviours must be displayed at all times. ’The service is currently seeking formal legal guidance… to ensure we are protected from all perspectives and that our inclusive culture remains safe. ‘Our priority is and always will be ensuring that every member of this network feels supported, respected and safe at work.’ They also confirmed that they would be consulting the Fire Brigades Union on the matter. In his role as Mayor of Greater Manchester, @AndyBurnhamGM — who is also tipped by some to be a future Prime Minister if he wins the Makerfield by-election — is also Greater Manchester’s Fire Commissioner, responsible for overseeing the service. General Secretary of the Free Speech Union, Lord Young of Acton, has now written to Mr Burnham to raise concerns about the chilling effect this has on free speech. Lord Young said that the ‘clear implication’ of the email from the fire brigade bosses was that ‘representing Reform UK constitutes an inherent threat to the institution’s culture and values and is to be treated as morally suspect’. He also highlighted that no action appears to have been taken against firefighters who support other political parties. The letter also states: ‘Staff are further invited to report colleagues who support any groups that go against the service’s values, which effectively amounts to an instruction to inform on colleagues for their political beliefs. ’The email will create a chilling effect on the free speech of GMFRS employees who support Reform. ’The practical effect is that a public fire and rescue service governed by you is treating the lawful political activity of your electoral opponents as a reputational risk to their employer. ‘Regardless of whether this reflects your instruction, it reflects your governance; and a public office-holder who permits his institution to demonise or chill the speech and political activity of those who support his principal electoral rival cannot claim to be discharging that office with the impartiality it demands.’ Read more below 👇
"You are not likely to see Henry Nowak’s words stenciled on a mural. No corporation will change its logo. The same establishment that made a few words immortal when spoken by a black man in Minneapolis has met the same words, spoken by a white boy dying on a British street, with what can only be described as a determined, institutional silence. That silence is not neutral. It is a statement. It tells you exactly whose suffering the system has decided counts, and whose does not."
I’m in love with this sentence: “The degree to which a person can grow is directly proportional to the amount of truth he can accept about himself without running away.”
Honestly, if this Fonseca-Djokovic classic ends up proving that Fonseca is “the third man” to step up and challenge Sincaraz, just like Djokovic stepped up as the “the third man” to challenge Fedal 19 years ago (when Fonseca was born) — what a wonderful and legendary full circle tennis story that would be eh?
Novak Djokovic: "I hope Fonseca becomes the next big thing. He has the potential. He's very professional and is pre-conditioned for success. He has amazing talent and firepower and all of Brazil cheering him on. I hope he wins many Grand Slams." 🇷🇸🇧🇷
Since the murder of Henry Nowak there has been stony silence from the Government. Not a peep from the Home Secretary. Not a word from the Prime Minister who is normally quick to respond to deaths involving the police, both in the UK and abroad. Remember the spectacle of him ‘taking the knee’ over George Floyd’s death? He won’t even say Henry Nowak’s name. Henry’s death constituted a national scandal. An 18 year old, robbed of his future on a night out in Southampton after being brutally stabbed 6 times with a 21cm long ceremonial sword. Instead of helping him, the police initially arrested him as he bled to death after he was accused by his attacker of racial harassment. Henry was treated not as the victim, but as the criminal. His murder could not have been more monstrous; the police response more shameful. So why has this appalling injustice been met with a collective shrug by politicians in Westminster? With the exception of a couple of us including Henry’s local MP, Jen Craft, it has not been raised in the House of Commons. I asked the Home Secretary to launch an investigation into the police’s conduct and a debate on two-tier policing - needless to say I was rebuffed. The silence can be explained by the fact that most politicians are more interested in showing their supposed virtue by favouring minority communities at the expense of the majority. So they look away at injustices perpetrated by minorities, lest it colour the multicultural illusion they have that the country is a harmonious melting pot. And they ignore prejudiced laws and the conventions of so-called ‘anti-racism’ which lead to discrimination against the majority. The trial of Henry’s killer, Vickrum Digwa, may be over, but the questions are only just beginning. Why did the police arrest Henry based on one allegation he had made a racial slur - something the prosecution described as a “wicked lie”? Why was Henry’s handcuffing and arrest considered a priority for the police when he was in a critical condition? Why do perceived racial sensitivities consistently appear to shape how the police enforce the law these days? The police have now apologised. But ‘sorry’ doesn’t cut it. Not remotely. Heads must roll for such a catastrophic failure. The bodycam footage must be released. And the police’s “anti-racist” training programmes need overhaul. We can’t go back in time and undo what has been done. Henry’s family and friends will live with this forever. But his tragic death should be a turning point. A clarion call for the authorities to act in a colour-blind way - treating people under the principle of equality before the law.
Yes, be angry about the murder of Henry Nowak. Angry that it happened; at how he was treated. But please reserve some anger for how we have allowed a culture to flourish where the mere mention of the word 'racist' causes otherwise sensible people to lose all sense of proportion.
Sorry isn’t good enough. We need to see the body-worn footage and these officers need to face consequences. The treatment of this murdered student, in his dying moments, is a national scandal.
@_landam01 As someone whose sister has special needs, I can tell you one look at this tweet would make you the most repulsive dating prospect for anyone in a similar situation. So don’t worry hun, you do you, and I hope you find someone who really, really deserves you.
She is misleading you. 813,000 came here last year. 645,000 left inc aspirational young ppl Take one from the other and you get her 171,000. So, we import the third world and lose our best people and she celebrates.
Net migration down 82%. Net migration is now at 171,000, down from a high of 944,000 under the Conservatives. This Government is restoring order and control to our borders.
The leftwing of the Westminster bubble seems totally oblivious to how important Keir’s reaction to the horrific events in Southport have been to how he is perceived. If you mention it they look at you blankly as though it was something insignificant that happened decades ago. Yet, his embarrassingly brief visit to Southport, the perpetrator’s identity being concealed and blaming the far right has deeply shaped how he is seen by voters across the country. It’s an image he hasn’t shifted.
@WalkerMarcus The reaction to Southport was catastrophic. It really did for Labour in the red wall seats.
The Tories were given a kicking in 2024. Labour now. This is not a rejection of just Starmer. It is a rejection of the last 30 years of governance. The British people keep crying out to be put first and the political class keep doing the opposite. Drain the swamp.
