Today Zack Fischer tees off with a 4-stroke lead at the KFT event. It’s his 171st career KFT start and he’s looking for his first win. His wife Kaitlin is the hero of the family. She has worked 2 jobs for a large majority of his 13 year pro career. Her job pays the bills and supports their two kids. Zack and I have been friendly for years. A few years ago after a long stretch of struggling Zack Monday Q’d for the Valero and finished 14th. After I asked him what change and he gave me one of the most honest answers. “I worked on becoming a better person, better husband, my struggles had nothing to do with golf”. This year he was playing out of a conditional category. In Chile he was right around the cut line, and a missed cut meant he might not get a start the rest of the season. He played the last few holes in under par and made the cut saving his season. He went on to finish T11. Now he’s 18 holes from his first win.
