After graduating from Harvard, I began working as a substitute teacher in the Boston area as a way to pay rent. I was shocked by the disparities I saw working in wealthy school districts and low-income school districts. That’s how I knew I wanted to pursue a career in education.

No school district in America cares about or is fair to Substitute Teachers who are the backbone of schools.

If you know me, you know how hard I worked to become a teacher. I was a substitute teacher for four years waiting for my turn to have my own set of littles. I would’ve have done it without my friends, family, awesome co-workers & amazing school community. Year One in the books!

Even $20 an hour to supervise and teach a classroom full of students is paltry. Long-term subs should be at intro teacher pay.

School districts across the nation face sharp shortages in Substitute Teachers due to low wages and poor quality of life for many. $85 a day and lower in some places. This is minimum wage. #SubstituteTeacherShortage

@pbcsd @ForestHillElem @Hunt4starfish This pay rate is extremely low and does not provide for the cost of living and paying rent. Good luck with filling these low paying positions.
