WA is broken. How to fix it: Repeal Ferguson's state income tax scheme. Stop the raid on LEOFF1 public pension. Repeal sheriff "de-certification" scheme. Require ID when people register to vote. End warrantless searches in WA. Hold state budgets at current levels for 5 years.

Gov. Ferguson, when he signed the income tax into law, set forth to create Washington’s new IRS. Hiring almost 230 new tax collectors (a cost to taxpayers of $150m), to go after just .5% of the tax paying population. Thats because Democrats fully intend to move the threshold of the income tax to the middle class, many Democrats said as much.

Before HR-1, aka “the one big beautiful bill” was ever passed, Gov. Ferguson signed the largest cuts to Medicaid in state history, $782m. He blamed Trump and Congress for what he and Democrats did here in WA. This year he did even more cuts to Medicaid, totaling over $1.2B in cuts for the 2 year budget period. He followed that up with more taxes on healthcare and hospitals. Including taxing your healthcare premiums to fund planned parenthood.

Since Gov. Ferguson took office, the cost of living in WA has exploded. In almost every measurable category WA is one of the most expensive in the nation. Gov. Ferguson blamed tariffs. But tariffs don’t affect the extreme cost of child care, gas, groceries, rent, homes, insurance, and healthcare. (The living expenses Washingtonians contend with every day) Those aren’t things we import from other nations, and neighboring states have dramatically lower costs despite existing under the exact same tariffs scheme as WA.

Gov. Ferguson is the first governor in state history to sign legislation that raids a pension, the police and firefighters LEOFF 1 pension — $4B stolen to be spent on deficits Democrats created. Healthy budgets don’t raid pensions from retired first responders who have spent their lives keeping us safe. No pension raid like this has ever been successful in court.

Gov. Ferguson said we needed responsible budgets. He’s now signed two budgets that dramatically increase spending (over 11% increase in spending), while still cutting essential services like Medicaid by over $1.2B (something he blames Republicans for), and worse, the budget spends more than we project to receive in revenue.

In 2025, Gov. Ferguson said he wouldn’t sign tax not sign legally untested “wealth” taxes (AKA income taxes), and that he was “deeply skeptical” of those taxes because normal Washingtonians have to live within their means. At the end of 2025, he announced his support for a new, unconstitutional, state income tax.

Gov. Ferguson said in 2025 that he wouldn’t sign proposed tax increases over $12B, less than a few months later he signed over $13B in tax increases. The largest in state history.

If his lips are moving, he’s lying. He pretended to be for responsible budgets, and against income taxes. Then he folded like a cheap lawn chair, passed the largest tax increases in state history, an income tax, a pension raid, and budgets that recklessly spend more than we have.

The Senate budget assumes $2.3 billion in income tax revenue by FY 2029. Of that amount, $1.3 billion is needed just to keep the budget balanced in the following biennium, leaving about $1 billion projected as reserve or unspent funds. However, the budget assumes a very low spending growth rate of just 2.2% in the next biennium, and doesn't assume anything for collective bargaining agreements. Historically, state spending in the last decade has grown much faster—about 15% per biennium on average, with the lowest increase still being 11.3% If the state spending grew at the LOWEST historical level of 11.3%, the entire projected income tax revenue would be used up AND the state will still face about a $7 billion deficit in the next biennium. You can like the income tax, hate the income tax, or be somewhere in between. But you cannot reasonably believe that it won't be expanded in the next few years. The math won't allow for that.
