🇫🇷🚇 Rennes Metro Line B:
➡️ 13.4 km (82% underground)
➡️ 15 stations
➡️ 8 years of construction
💰 Just €97M/km! 🤯
France excels in civil engineering, especially cost-effective tunneling. So efficient that even relatively small cities like Rennes can afford metros!
Toronto is unfortunately not serious about the streetcars and hasn’t been in a very long time. Part of the issue is a seeming desire to maintain things as close to the 1950s as possible.
If you follow me over where the sky is blue, you’d already know this, but my latest video provides a behind the scenes look at Brightline adding the 5th coach.

Nov 28, 1995: @CNRailway ceases to be a federal Crown corporation with the conclusion of its initial public offering. The company had been incorporated 76 years earlier and absorbed two of the three railways serving Toronto: the Canadian Northern and the Grand Trunk. 1/3
By giving GO trains a place to pass each other, or slow moving freight trains, two-way all-day service to Kitchener is slowly being unlocked.
More passing tracks will be built on the Metrolinx Guelph Subdivision over the coming years.
The new 2.6 km passing track in Breslau (Woolwich Township) and advanced signal system are now in place, marking an important step towards two-way, all-day service. This upgrade is essential for enabling greater capacity, resilience and a smoother commute. bit.ly/3W2oCtQ
🚧 Exciting news! We’re putting the finishing touches on the West Toronto Railpath, including new fencing to enhance safety for all. This transformation is nearly complete, and we can’t wait to welcome the community back soon! 🌿🚴♀️ Stay tuned for more updates! 🔔✨
Bramalea is really starting to feel like another Union Station.
And this is just one train platform, the brunt of the work Bramalea does moving people is through the massive bustling bus terminal with multiple connections to GO/407 expressway, Züm, Brampton Transit, and MiWay.
East Harbour Transit Hub will provide Toronto’s Riverdale neighbourhood with new connections to the Lakeshore and Stouffville GO lines, the Ontario Line, and future TTC streetcars. Progress continues to be made at this new station!
Soon, you may start to see changes to signs and maps at bus stops as we prepare for the launch of the New Ways to Bus network. The new signs will be covered to indicate they are not in effect. The current bus service remains unchanged.

THREAD. The downward spiral of transit services and agencies in Canada (and surely elsewhere around the world) is utterly disappointing to see. With the reality of climate change, to turn our backs on something that can help, not to mention the necessity for people to get around.
Stephenson Enginnering has also released renderings for the new Woodbine GO Station.
This station will become a hub for Etobicoke, and will be replacing the existing Etobicoke North GO station, which will be permanently closed once this station opens.

@Metrolinx@WoodbineTB Highway 27 GO will be an important airport-adjacent station with four tracks served by two island platforms called at by both local and express trains accessed from two overpasses. An 8-bay bus loop and small parking lot will be provided. Service tracks for freight trains.
if we stopped talking about transit issues because "there's no funding!", transit will never improve
the lack of funding for transit is pervasive. it's not an excuse to dismiss transit issues, such as level-boarding - a major accessibility issue and barrier for people...
I tweeted yesterday that agencies in the NE US should raise their platforms so they are all high level and got a bunch of replies going "they don't have funding!" which ok, but that doesn't change the point!
How does Metro Vancouver build rapid transit for less than many other cities in North America? Short elevated stations that are attractive, but highly standardized.
Compare to Northgate station in Seattle which looks like it could easily be twice as tall!
The community of Streetsville in Mississauga is really nice, and has two great Mexican restaurants.
It is located adjacent to Streetsville GO on the Milton Line, which unfortunately only has peak service. TWAD GO would open up this gem of a community to the whole region!
20-storey towers will be allowed for sites within 400 metres of #SkyTrain Commercial-Broadway Station.
And the "Pace of Change" policy of Grandview-Woodland Plan to limit development will be axed, replaced by new tenant protections. #TOD#vanpoli#vanredailyhive.com/vancouver/vanc…
