"Human-only zones." It sounds like a concept from a science fiction movie...but as AI agents transition from researching products to actually buying them, it might be the only way to save the integrity of online marketplaces. Veriff Chief Product and Technology Officer Hubert Behaghel dives into a massive shift: the rise of Agentic Commerce. During the 2025 holiday season, AI search and agents influenced or drove 20% of all e-commerce sales. We're moving fast toward a "zero-click" internet where automated agents proactively search, negotiate, and execute purchases for us. Here is the problem 👉 the internet is not ready for it. We're already seeing the cracks. @eBay recently updated its user agreement to explicitly ban unauthorized "buy for me" agents to stop AI from "bid sniping" human users. Even worse, giving AI tools access to payment credentials opens an exponential new attack surface for fraud, including agent hijacking and counterfeit shopping assistants. Hubert argues that to survive this shift, identity verification has to drastically evolve. Even when an AI agent is executing a transaction, that agent must be completely traceable back to a real, verified human. Biometrics and continuous liveness detection will remain the ultimate anchors of trust, forcing human accountability at high-risk points like account updates and major transactions. Until platforms can seamlessly anchor AI actions to human identities, we're going to see a rise in strictly enforced, human-only zones on the web.
