Yesterday I led an interactive anti-drug and family interface at Stodart Hall Grounds in Mbare under the Angel of Hope Foundation, bringing together communities, health experts, law enforcement and Government stakeholders in a united effort against drug and substance abuse. We held open dialogue sessions, shared lived experiences from recovery journeys, and equipped families with practical knowledge on early warning signs, prevention, and support systems for affected individuals. I was joined by Zimbabwe footballers Marvelous Nakamba and Tawanda Chirewa, who added their voices in encouraging young people to choose discipline, sport and positive life paths. Together, we remain committed to building a safer, healthier and drug-free Zimbabwe.
Yesterday’s cultural exchange programme with a delegation from the country of Equatorial Guinea at Baradzanwa Cultural Village underscored the vital role that culture plays in strengthening ties among African nations. As our two nations came together to share traditions, values and experiences, the event highlighted the importance of preserving our rich heritage while empowering future generations through initiatives such as Nhanga/Gota/Ixhiba. I was also delighted to witness women entrepreneurs exhibiting their products, showcasing the creativity, resilience and innovation that continue to drive community development and economic empowerment.
Today, I was delighted to host a delegation from Cambridge University Press & Assessment as we discussed ways of incorporating key aspects of Zimbabwe’s Heritage-Based Education 5.0 into the Cambridge curriculum. The vision is for every child to access quality education that combines academic excellence with our rich culture, heritage, history and values. Together, we can raise globally competitive citizens who remain proudly Zimbabwean.
I am deeply saddened by two heartbreaking tragedies that have claimed innocent lives. My heart is shattered by the cruel loss of seven primary school learners in the devastating kombi fire incident in Senga, Gweru. It is painful beyond words to imagine the dreams, laughter and bright futures that were so tragically cut short. I am equally saddened by the cruel loss of lives in Budiriro, Harare where three bodies were recovered from an unsecured sewer pond reportedly left open for months. No family should have to endure such a painful loss. I share in the grief of all the bereaved families and offer my heartfelt condolences. I also wish a speedy recovery to those who were injured. May God grant comfort and strength to everyone affected, and may the souls of the departed rest in eternal peace.
It was a pleasure to meet Princess Dana Firas of Jordan also UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador, on the sidelines of the Global Zero Waste Forum in Istanbul, Türkiye. We exchanged insights on the important role of culture, heritage, and indigenous knowledge systems in addressing climate change, promoting sustainable lifestyles, and advancing the Zero Waste agenda. Our ancestral wisdom continues to offer invaluable solutions for building a greener, more resilient future for generations to come.
I was honoured to join global leaders, policymakers and environmental experts at the Zero Waste Forum in Türkiye to advance discussions on climate action and sustainable development. The transition to zero-waste and circular economies requires strong partnerships, innovation and inclusive solutions. Together, we can build cleaner, greener and more resilient communities for present and future generations. For Zimbabwe, embracing zero-waste principles presents an opportunity to strengthen environmental protection, create green jobs, improve waste management systems and unlock new economic value through recycling and innovation.
I am deeply honoured to be recognised during the launch of the May 2026 edition of EKONOMOS Business Affairs Magazine in Sydney, Australia. As a respected publication that brings together business leaders, policymakers, diplomats and academics, this recognition is both humbling and inspiring. This honour reflects the growing impact of the Angel of Hope Foundation and the collective efforts of our team, partners and communities to empower lives, strengthen opportunities and advance inclusive development in Zimbabwe and beyond. It renews our commitment to creating lasting positive change and building a brighter future for the communities we serve. Together, we will continue working to uplift lives and create opportunities for future generations.
Today, I had the privilege of watching an exciting encounter between Scotland FC and CAPS United. Sport is a powerful instrument for unity, healthy living and national pride. It should bring us together, not divide us. However, violence, hooliganism, drug and substance abuse have no place in our game. I once again reiterated my call to supporters, players and club leaders to reject all forms of violence and to uphold discipline and respect at all times. Our stadiums must remain safe, inclusive and welcoming spaces where families, women and children can enjoy the beautiful game in peace and dignity. Let us continue to uphold the values of Ubuntu that define us as Zimbabweans
Enjoying the lively atmosphere at the National Sports Stadium this afternoon. It is refreshing to see families, young people and football supporters coming together once again in this beautifully refurbished facility. Despite the chilly weather, football lovers have braved the cold and turned out in their numbers. Sport continues to unite us, and it is wonderful to witness the passion, energy and sportsmanship on display today.
What a wonderful Sunday afternoon at the National Sports Stadium for the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League clash between Scotland FC and CAPS United. Today is even more special as we celebrate the reopening of our iconic stadium following its refurbishment. Congratulations to everyone who worked tirelessly to restore this important national asset. Football unites people, promotes healthy living and inspires our young people. It should bring families together, not be marred by violence and hooliganism. As mothers and passionate supporters of the game, we say no to violence and yes to peaceful, family-friendly football where everyone feels safe and welcome. I wish both teams and their supporters an enjoyable afternoon filled with great football, sportsmanship, unity and respect.
A mother's tears, a father's silent prayer, and a family's determination to fight for a loved one’s future. These were some of the powerful moments I witnessed today at the 8th intake session of the Angel of Hope Drug Rehabilitation Centre. Behind every admission is a family choosing hope over despair and taking the courageous step towards recovery. As a mother, I remain committed to supporting these families alongside our dedicated rehabilitation team, whose professionalism and compassion continue to change lives. Recovery is not an easy journey, but with care, patience, and unwavering support, transformation is possible. Together, we will continue restoring hope, strengthening families, and giving individuals a second chance to thrive.
I am deeply honoured to have received the Zimbabwe Women Excellence Award today, a recognition that celebrates women who have demonstrated outstanding leadership, innovation, and impact in transforming communities through service and philanthropy. I received this prestigious award in recognition of my work through the Angel of Hope Foundation, where I have dedicated myself to uplifting vulnerable communities across Zimbabwe. I am truly humbled by this recognition alongside fellow women leaders. I dedicate it to every community partner and every Zimbabwean whose resilience continues to inspire our shared commitment to service.
I was delighted by the vibrant 6th edition of the Amai’s Traditional Cookout finals held in Kwekwe, Midlands Province where Zimbabwe’s rich culinary heritage brought together communities from all provinces in celebration of Africa Day. The Amai’s Traditional Cookout Competition continues to play a pivotal role in preserving Zimbabwe’s indigenous culinary traditions by promoting traditional dishes, local ingredients and cultural knowledge among communities and future generations. I am proud to see Zimbabwe’s gastronomy and cultural heritage continuing to inspire unity, empowerment and opportunity for all.
I attended the Baradzanwa Mbira Festival, where I experienced a deeply moving celebration of our heritage, identity and ancestral sound during Culture Month celebrations. The mbira, played by artisans, young performers and masters alike, continues to carry our stories, spirituality and unity across generations. It is more than music it is lived memory and a cultural heartbeat that connects families, communities and our national identity. Through initiatives such as this festival, we are not only promoting cultural tourism but also empowering communities and nurturing pride in our traditions. I also toured mbira exhibitions, had the honour of launching the Mbira Virtuosos publication, and took part in recognising both living and late legends who have safeguarded this sacred instrument for generations.
I attended proceedings at Rotten Row Magistrates’ Court in Harare today to better understand how justice is being delivered within our formal legal system and to stand in solidarity with affected families. I witnessed the sentencing of Anymore Zvitsva to 89 years on multiple counts, a moment that brought a measure of relief to survivors who have endured immense pain. I also observed other sensitive matters, including cases involving vulnerable persons, as part of my ongoing efforts to appreciate how our justice system serves all citizens.
I am deeply proud of the six beneficiaries from humble backgrounds under the Angel of Hope Foundation aviation scholarship, who are currently undergoing training at CATS Aviation Training Academy at Charles Prince Airport. They are now confidently flying solo and making steady progress in their training. Their discipline and determination continue to inspire many across Zimbabwe as they turn their dreams into reality in the skies. Among the beneficiaries are three young women, reflecting the programme’s continued commitment to empowering the girl child and ensuring equal opportunity for all to excel and thrive in aviation and beyond.
I took my Doek Drive to Manicaland province, honouring the dignity, culture and resilience of our women. We continue to restore pride, respect, unity and shared values, rooted in love for our communities. The doek remains a powerful symbol of identity, dignity and cultural pride, reflecting the beauty of womanhood across generations. This spirit also speaks to our shared sisterhood across the region and beyond. Every woman must stand tall, confident and cherished, as we uplift mothers, strengthen families and safeguard our cultural heritage.
I met with the families of the Chinhoyi Seven Heroes in a historic meeting that has opened new leads on their possible burial sites, 60 years after the historic Battle of Chinhoyi. As directed by the Politburo, where I serve as Secretary for Environment and Tourism, I am spearheading this process to help bring closure by tracing where our fallen gallant sons were laid to rest. This will allow their loved ones to finally find peace, while also advancing legacy projects that benefit the families and their communities. Their sacrifice must never be forgotten. In support of this cause, during our meeting, each family of the seven heroes received a residential stand in Chinhoyi, turning remembrance into a lasting legacy.
