I hate gerrymandering, but the question is: If GOP states brazenly do it mid-decade, is the proper blue-state response "two wrongs don't make a right" or "level the playing field to neutralize its national impacts." Ultimately, I voted "yes" based on the latter. Paradoxically, I consider this the best way to ultimately discourage mid-decade gerrymanders because it prevents the instigators from being rewarded with much more net House seats. And I believe this cross-state backlash will discourage this mid-decade gambit from being repeated in the future. Ultimately, a national ban on gerrymandering is central to fixing Congress. But passively letting one side gerrymander and be rewarded for it would move us further away from that point. Conservatives should recognize this "peace through strength" principle: The best way to discourage war is not to unilaterally disarm, but rather to build a strong enough military to discourage the other side from launching the next war.

In the best case scenario, Trump struck a deal to reopen a Strait that was open before the pointless war he started, with the IRGC demonstrating its control over the Strait and potentially extracting fees plus sanctions relief. Thousands of innocents - including hundreds of children - dead in Lebanon and Iran for no reason. U.S. troops killed and wounded. U.S. embassies and bases in the Middle East badly damaged. U.S. standing in the world obliterated. U.S. munitions badly depleted. Hundreds of billions spent. Prices up everywhere. More global economic fallout to come. Putin strengthened and enriched. Just a catastrophic situation even in the best of circumstances. A profoundly shameful episode in American history no matter what happens next.

@FracSlap I’ve applied for and gotten several DoE grants and have awarded contracts to companies. I agree there’s a lot of waste in overhead at national labs but this is a stretch! Subaward contracts are typically for services rendered and vary a lot by company.

It's the engagement of experts here that contributes substantially to its staying power; the more experts who leave, the more journalists & others will follow. Regardless, expecting experts to use their finite time & energy to generate content for the platform for free (or even at cost to them via subscription) for the purpose of counteracting the owner's attempt to convert it into a MAGA political tool is not a reasonable expectation.

@tylerhnorris I respect everyone’s choice but think it’s sad so many smart people are leaving. It doesn’t make Musk less powerful-still lots of people engage-it increases his power by essentially converting this platform into a more influential Truth Social. Not sure that’s good for any of us.

This is being framed as a *bad* thing but this is very good! One thing Texas cities have done *much* better than any blue city/state is to rapidly build housing to accommodate population growth and keep prices relatively affordable. We must continue to build more housing.

This isn't surprising. Exxon is betting big on lithium mining in AR + CO2 sequestration in the Gulf of Mexico. They are ahead of their peers in *actually* planning for a transition. Adding uncertainty by withdrawing from Paris Agreement or repealing IRA will be bad for Exxon!
