this year i intend to take the first steps towards self-actualization. the work that i’ve done over the past 3 years has gotten me to a place where i’m beginning to see glimpses of who i’m meant to be. and i’m so so excited to meet her.
i’m still searching for the words to describe this experience. it struck the fear of god in me, and made me realize the urgency in choosing aliveness over hiding and sedation.
and through it i realized that it wasn’t all that different from small pain that i face every day. the discomfort of transforming, of becoming. i had to face all of the times i’d betrayed myself for something that wasn’t meant to be mine.
during my 29th year on earth, i was forced to choose whether or not i would live. whether i would continue avoiding myself or wholeheartedly devote myself to actualization, understand what it means to care for myself and be present and seen.
i chose to live.
@BecomingCritter i share bits of my story on here and hope to share it more cohesively soon, but i really believe that being forced to choose to live is the best thing that’s ever happened to me
a couple of years ago i watched a @HeidiPriebe1 video where she said (paraphrased) "there are resources and competent adults who can help you with your problems" and so many of the good things that have happened to me since then have been a result of choosing to believe in this
been doing a little shadow play in improv, expressing parts of myself in an exaggerated way and having them received in a positive and humorous light ~
one of the highest roi skills you can develop is learning to identify the specific skills you need to solve a problem you are experiencing. from there, ask (for help / guidance) and you shall receive.
@ArtirKel i think it can sometimes be useful to give direct advice if the person is asking for it, but if they aren’t they likely aren’t ready to confront the problem / bring it into conscious awareness, and it’s just wasted effort better spent modeling the behavior you want to see more of
@ArtirKel so i focus more of my efforts on modeling my values and being supportive and empathetic of people going through problems similar to ones i’ve gone through. i will sometimes share stories of when i was in a similar situation and what i did to gauge receptivity.
@ArtirKel it’s an easy trap to try to solve a problem that another person is experiencing for them when you haven’t quite solved it yourself yet because of projection etc. if there’s anything i’ve learned over the past decade, it’s that you can’t force someone to change who isn’t ready
