@blind_via@CapacitAnas@AI_in_LEO Of course. Prevention is the best practice. Purely playing devils advocate as a thought exercise.
Conventional practices need stress testing from time to time else people forget why they exist.
@blind_via@CapacitAnas@AI_in_LEO Haven't tried a vacuum reflow that sounds interesting.
We did cure our epoxies while the hardware was in the vacuum chamber. For similar reasons.
@CapacitAnas@blind_via@AI_in_LEO Would have to see the study to believe this.
We've been talking about small voids on 2-4 layer cubeSat sized pcbs which have undergone bakeout.
(Not the same as reflow)
Don't think proper apples to apples comparisons are being made.
@blind_via@CapacitAnas@AI_in_LEO More or less the same conclusion we came to.
Does leave us wondering though if adding vacuum into the mix really makes difference in that case.
Haven't run the numbers so can't say for sure but it's such a small area that it's hard to imagine the added force would be much.
@gojimmypi@blind_via@AI_in_LEO@CapacitAnas You're not wrong.
We went through 3 launch service providers before actually making it to Space.
1 went out of business.
1 pivoted to defense
1 overbooked a launch
@CapacitAnas@blind_via@AI_in_LEO For CubeSats our intuition is via gas entrapment likely wouldn't be a major cause for concern.
Unless the pcb was in close proximity to an optical sensor.
This is because typical CubeSat voltages are insufficient to ionize the released gas and create a conduction path.
@CapacitAnas@blind_via@AI_in_LEO These were what our vias looked like on 2 layer Flight hardware.
We weren't allowed to use JLC for security reasons.
Would a bakeout not make it a non issue anyway @blind_via ?
Our CubeSat Resource Center is now open source! 🚀
Including a beautiful interactive visualizer showing real NTN constellation orbits like @IridiumComm & @Starlink🛰️🌍
What other satellite tools should we add next?

@IridiumComm@Starlink 20% off any CubeSource product for the first person who correctly points out which orbit in the visualizer violates physics 😏

Card-Sat of the week:
@AI_in_LEO built a functional pico-satellite that deploys straight from your wallet for ~$80. This is the kind of mad science that makes the old guard nervous.
👽 are no longer safe from business development! 🛸
Card-Sat V0 is done! This is a business-card sized satellite.
Many lessons learned here. At ~$80/sat I was north of beating $50SAT out for the title of cheapest satellite but at least I got to learn to make custom radios, solar panels etc.
Next up: deployment & comms tests
