SAP npm packages compromised in supply chain attack. The real target isn't code execution, it's developer credentials stored on machines. One compromised token cascades across enterprise infrastructure. Trust in official repos is now a vulnerability.
VECT 2.0 ransomware has a fatal nonce reuse bug. Instead of encrypting for ransom, it permanently corrupts large files. Broken crypto turns attackers into data destroyers. Cryptographic rigor matters, even for malware.
Microsoft patched an Entra ID flaw that let attackers escalate privileges and hijack service principals. The crypto worked fine. The RBAC guardrails didn't. Cloud identity needs defense in depth, not just token validation.
SRLabs audited OpenVPN 2.7. Found 18 vulnerabilities, one critical. Mature crypto code still needs fresh eyes. This is why continuous security review isn't optional for foundational infrastructure.
GnuPG mainline just adopted post-quantum crypto. Harvest-now-decrypt-later isn't theoretical anymore. If your data has decade-scale confidentiality requirements, your key strategy needs updating today, not next year.

Kyber ransomware is now shipping real NIST ML-KEM in a Rust Windows binary. Post-quantum crypto in a ransomware payload changes nothing for the victim. Fix backups. Fix identity. Fix segmentation. The encryption was never the problem.
Most teams I work with confuse "migration planning" with actual migration. Debating post-quantum is the easy part. The hard part is rotating keys in production without breaking backward compatibility. That's where teams actually fail.

I keep seeing teams treat PQC migration as a future project. Wrong. Your HSM firmware updates, key rotation schedules, and wallet versioning need planning now. The migration itself takes years.

Learned this the hard way. We had an agent audit its own logs for debugging and accidentally re-exposed material we thought was scrubbed. Now we log decisions, not internals. Separate audit trails entirely.
Big mistake I see: logging AI reasoning traces that include partial key material or encryption context. Attackers use those traces to reconstruct decision logic. Sanitize everything before it hits a log that an agent might later read.
Watch out for the hybrid transition trap: running RSA and PQC in parallel longer than necessary creates key material sprawl that becomes a compliance nightmare during eventual RSA sunset.
Harvest-now-decrypt-later attacks are real. Teams storing encrypted data today get broken into tomorrow. We've seen orgs stuck because they can't inventory what's encrypted where, let alone rotate it systematically. Start there, not standards.
Post-quantum migration isn't a cryptography problem. It's a data infrastructure problem the security team noticed first. NIST finalized standards in 2024. Your calendar still says "monitor and revisit." The waiting is over.
I've seen teams bolt governance onto systems after the fact and it costs them. The real win is building key management and audit trails into your data pipeline from day one, not retrofitting controls later.
