I have to leave sports for a moment to touch on a controversial topic: The Karmelo Anthony trial. I say this as a black man. —————————————————— I am a licensed gun owner. I am not walking around pretending to be a tough guy. I am not seeking confrontations. I am not driving with road rage, and daring someone to cut me off. I am not posting up in the bad section of town, and hoping that someone will test me. If someone says something mean to me, I will not pull a gun. If someone shoves me, I will not pull a gun. If someone punches me in the mouth, I will not pull a gun. Why not? I can defend myself in each of these situations without the use of a gun, and I know that shooting someone in ANY of these situations would lead to a murder charge. —————————————————- Karmelo Anthony was not convicted because he was/is black. He was not convicted because his victim was white. He was not convicted because he had an All-white jury. He was convicted for two reasons: 1. He used lethal force in a situation that did not warrant lethal force. 2. He placed himself in an environment that he knew would likely lead to a physical confrontation………while armed with a weapon of some sort. There are race relation issues in this country. This should not be one of them. Actions have consequences.
