Physics may be better understood not as modeling physical reality, but as the practice of describing arbitrary systems by short algebraic equations (some not even computable). Physicists tend to ignore physical reality that resists being analyzed in this way (eg. chemistry).
everything 'creative' is a remix of things that happened in the past, plus epsilon and times the quality of the feedback loop and the number of iterations. people think they should maximize epsilon but the trick is to maximize the other two.

We don't need huge financial incentives to entice people to work in research. People want to work in research. They'll even sacrifice a lot for it. What we have to do is just treat them with respect and not waste their talents.
I think the smart thing that big tech research companies are doing is not so much paying big salaries, but getting young researchers and giving them autonomy and resources to do their research rather than trapping them for years in the research programmes of previous generations.
