Databricks is a $150 billion. Meanwhile most people still can't explain it beyond "it's like... a data thing." Let me explain databricks in simple words Imagine your company has data everywhere. Sales data. User clicks. Server logs. IoT sensors. Millions of rows. Growing every second. Now imagine trying to run Excel on all of that. Your laptop dies. Excel cries. Your manager yells. That's the problem Databricks solves. It's basically a giant shared workspace that sits on top of your cloud (AWS, Azure, GCP). You throw ALL your data in one place they call it a Data Lakehouse. Lake = raw messy data dumps (like S3 buckets) Warehouse = clean structured data for analysis Lakehouse = both. In one. No compromise. Then your team engineers, analysts, data scientists all log in and do their thing: → Engineer builds pipelines to clean the data → Analyst runs SQL to answer business questions → Data scientist trains ML models on the same data Same platform. Same data. No copy-pasting between 6 tools. Under the hood it runs on Apache Spark a distributed engine that breaks massive jobs into tiny tasks and runs them in parallel across hundreds of machines. So what takes your laptop 3 hours takes Databricks 4 minutes. Netflix uses it. Shell uses it. Comcast uses it. They just raised at a $62B valuation. The boring summary: it's the operating system for data teams. If you're in tech and haven't looked at this yet you're already behind.
