Violence in Belfast came in the wake of what the prime minister has called a 'sickening' knife attack that left a man in hospital with serious eye, neck and back injuries. A 30-year-old man from Sudan has been charged with attempted murder and will appear in court on Wednesday.
The scenes of disorder we have witnessed in some parts of Northern Ireland this evening are only damaging communities and putting innocent lives at risk. There is no justification at all for this type of thuggery. I echo the call from the PSNI for this violence to end now. /2
