The German government apparently has received no direct communications from the Trump administration about any of this. There are only statements on social media and in the press about faithless NATO allies. Thus the goal is not actually to secure assistance in opening the Strait, at least not at this stage. Rather, it is to assign responsibility *in the eyes of American voters* for the continued closure to other countries. It's a publicity and a messaging campaign driven by Trump's desire to declare victory and extricate himself.
