Boston is home to Ginkgo and the American biotech industry. Yes 💯 I cold emailed Sam after his blog post about hard tech in 2014 and he replied in 5 minutes and told me to fly out and meet him in SF. One meeting and I knew we had to do @ycombinator — @sama was very unique in Silicon Valley at that time believing in hard tech companies like @ginkgo. He really had conviction on changing the world w real tech, we’re lucky to have him in US.

Sam Altman deserves credit for YC's turn toward hard tech. When he became CEO in 2014 he went out and recruited companies doing stuff like airliners and fusion, and hard tech startups have been some of the best in every batch since.
