🚨‼️Breaking News I’ve received footage of HDC Deputy Director and murderer Ismail Abdul Raheem (Isu) attacking Asham and repeatedly trying to grab the young woman, by hitting and pushing Asham to the ground. The first time he managed to grab her and this video shows his second attempt. Asham acts in self defence. Contrary to police statements fed to the media, Isu was not the victim of a severe assault by Asham. News saying he was hospitalised due to injuries from the altercation are completely false. Update I got many DMs asking if the figure is real, whether it’s 13.4 million or 1.34 million. Figure is correct. It’s 13,405,986.22 MVR for 255 licences. That’s 52,572 MVR per licence, funded by taxpayers, half going directly to B Plus Maldives (MP Shuja and HDC IT Zaid’s associates).

HDC’s IT Zaid, is awarding the purchase of an AutoCAD licence to his friend Aslam's company B Plus Maldives Pvt Ltd for 13,405,986.22 MVR. Yes, 13.4 million MVR. The same licence can be purchased directly from Autodesk at roughly half the price or less. Instead, Zaid routed the procurement through a bidding process, resulting in this heavily inflated cost. The Terms of Reference were drafted so narrowly and restrictively that only B Plus Maldives Pvt Ltd submitted a bid.

This is not a personal attack on Shanko. He’s a good friend. I’m sharing this to discuss the broader issue, not just one individual case. We should all agree that we cannot have it both ways. As a PNC member, Shanko received three promotions under this government, rising to Deputy Director level. Those promotions were political decisions, influenced by political alignment. Later, that alignment changed. Shanko left PNC, joined MDP, and was subsequently removed from his position. This too was a political decision. If we genuinely want to fix this problem, we must be consistent. We cannot celebrate political influence in hiring and promotions when it benefits us, then condemn political influence only when it harms us. A principle is either right all the time or it isn’t. And this is not about Shanko alone. It applies to every individual who secured a job, promotion, or appointment through political connections rather than merit. The day we collectively reject political appointments and politically-driven promotions in SOEs is the day politically motivated demotions and dismissals will begin to disappear as well.
