@bruce_wayyne@Itsfoss Not saying these things out of ego. Everyone makes mistakes and is flawed in their own way. It's just so high stakes writing, for instance, kernel code. Your code is securing millions of devices but your carelessness allowed vulnerabilities to be exploited
@bruce_wayyne@Itsfoss Soo, C allows flawed programmers to write flawed code without ever questioning it. Rust forces you to try again until you get it absolutely right.
@Ookaze0@SeregonWar@TheNintendoGoof Don't get me wrong though. Linux works, has so many use cases and generally is reliable. But there are so many poor development choices that are still around which are biting devs in the ass right now
@Ookaze0@SeregonWar@TheNintendoGoof Interesting. Even Torvalds himself admitted the kernel is bloated and the code is messy. Either way, FOSS is no guarantee of quality. Linux got popular and people made it THE project to work on even though technically it isn't that impressive.
@Ookaze0@SeregonWar@TheNintendoGoof You're right that Linux is more general and thus not as well secured but still the Linux kernel code quality is one of the worst I have ever seen. Nintendo hired really good engineers.
@SeregonWar@TheNintendoGoof Theoretically no. A system can absolutely be free of vulnerabilities. Systems like seL4 have been modeled and formally verified to behave exactly as intended under every circumstance. But realistically you're right. Switch's userland apps have contained lots of vulns in the past.
@SeregonWar@TheNintendoGoof Not really worth it. The kernel has been audited by tens of talented researchers and has been concluded to be bug free. It's also a microkernel, so the attack surface is naturally really low. Funnily enough the Switch is more secure than iOS, Android, Windows, Linux and macOS 😭
