Self-taught Software Engineer = DISCIPLINE 😤 No one is forcing you to turn in assignments, to learn, or to be extra curious. There are no deadlines or tuition bills due. If you aren't hungry for knowledge and willing to go the extra mile when you don't know something, you probably won't make it. Anyways...😅 That's what I'm going through and spent a solid 30-45min reseraching charAt() and splice(). Projects: Simple vs. complex ✔️📋 This is what I’m struggling with while building my sports project. 🥴 I have a soft deadline in the beginning of December to get this done simply because it’s when the basketball season starts. I am realize being a beginner developer and having the vision for something exact might not be possible right now. It’s possible, but maybe not by Dec 5 😂 That’s why I have resorted to super simple instead. Taking a break from a goal turned into a breakthrough! 🙌💥 This past weekend I set a goal to learn how to create a dropdown menu. I officially know how to, but the styling was terrible and frustrating. Goal: 50% ✅ BUT when I took a break, I decided to work on my template for my schedule / score boxes. I am EXTREMELY happy to report…that I didn’t need to Google ANYTHING to make this page. 😭😃❤️ this was really my first serious thing I have made without looking things up. Nothing wrong with googling…but at some point, we gotta know how to do it, right?? Here’s a sample of my code and I’m sureeee it’s a little jankie (see my post from a couple days ago LOL) But it’s really okay. My sport-scores project is NOT broken anymore 🥳🥳 I can now successfully: ✔️ Fetch games to report on a schedule page ✔️ Fetch the games in a dropdown menu for admin & coaches to report their score ✔️ Scores update in the database NOW…on to: 🔹 My first go at wireframing 🔹 Figuring out Figma 🔹 Listing pages I need 🔹 Creating a template for those pages ✴️ Thanks to my broken project before…I will now plan for mobile first 📱 ✴️ And I will say…I’m not sure why I picked this big of a project for my FIRST PROJECT EVER 😂🥴 might as well dive in! 40 teams // 360 games this season. ✴️ Thanks to #dev30 and all the JS foundations I’m learning. JAVASCRIPT & SPORTS BETTING?! 💻 🏈 In an attempt to be extra curious & to get in some extra practice...I created a mini sports betting system! This week in #dev30 we are learning about scope and arrays. To practice arrays, I made a program to put together a parley based on stats. I already see multiple ways I can improve this code, but I thought I'd share my first attempt! Goal one: Make it work! ✅ Goal two: It's very repetitive...so create a function to make it less repetitive! 🔄 Goal three: Put into practice what I've learned and make it a step more complicated!
