In Sahih al-Bukhari 4999, Muhammad told Muslims to learn the Quran from four companions: Abdullah ibn Mas'ud, Salim Mawla Abi Hudhayfa, Ubayy ibn Ka'b, and Mu'adh ibn Jabal. But when Uthman later took control of the Quranic compilation, he did not adopt the personal codex of any of those four men. Not one. Instead, he produced his own standardized version, forced it on the Muslim world, and ordered every other manuscript to be burned. If Allah had already preserved the Quran through those chosen companions, why did Uthman need to replace their codices with his own version? The Quran Muslims read today is the Quran of Uthman.
