Clients think someone is watching their website. Usually, they assume it’s the agency. But if nobody owns backups, updates, scans, and monitoring, the site is just sitting there waiting for trouble. Maintenance isn’t an upsell. It’s how you avoid the emergency call.
When your site goes down, you don’t just lose uptime. You risk losing: ✅ Sales ✅ Leads ✅ Ad spend ✅ SEO value ✅ Customer trust ✅ Team productivity Downtime doesn’t have to last long to hurt. It just has to happen at the wrong time.
If wp-config.php checks out, the issue may be with the database server, not your WordPress files. Shared hosting during a traffic spike, MySQL overload, server maintenance, or refused connections can all cause the same error. Ask your host before changing five things at once.
Before blaming plugins or “repairing” the database, check wp-config.php against what your host has on file. This is one of the first things that goes wrong after a migration or host change. One copied credential, one wrong character, and boom.
“Error establishing a database connection” is one of the scariest-looking errors in WordPress. But it doesn’t mean your data is gone. It usually means WordPress can’t currently talk to the database. Scary message, often a much smaller problem.
