I know how important the task of the Review will be - to improve educational experience and outcomes, without doing damage or precipitating unintended consequences. I'll be steered by the evidence, and consult widely.

The government will have to successfully square this aspiration with its manifesto commitment to build on knowledge rich syllabuses. Getting this wrong is the route to the policy failure seen elsewhere.

53% of secondary teachers in the most disadvantaged schools said that poor behaviour entirely stopped learning at least once in the last lesson they taught, compared to 37% who reported the same in the most affluent state schools.
Interesting results from the @TeacherTapp general election manifesto education policy rankings! Love how this was done. It would be great if @bphillipsonMP could have a good look at this to see what the priorities are for teachers and how it aligns with Labour’s priorities.
There are schools where behaviour is so bad that children are unsafe, don’t learn, and scores leave with no quals. You won’t hear about these schools in the press. Instead, you’ll find journalists bashing schools with high expectations. It’s lazy, unfair, and deeply unhelpful.

On curriculum, where a lot of anxiety has been felt by teachers who feel they’ve done a lot of work in this area already, I think there’ll be a great sense of relief.
🌹 Breakfast clubs in all primaries 🌹 Specialist mental health professionals in all schools 🌹 More support for creative and vocational subjects 🌹 Improved access to sport, music and art 🌹 3000 new nurseries
The Labour manifesto is out and there’s a fair bit to digest. 🌹 More teacher recruitment 🌹 Support staff negotiating body 🌹 Focus on early years maths 🌹 Early language interventions 🌹 Regional improvement teams 🌹 Ofsted report cards 🌹 Community-wide approach to SEND
It looks as though the education talking point of this election will be VAT on private school fees, something which won’t have a huge impact on the vast majority of teachers and pupils.
This is the closest we have to Labour’s schools policy until the manifesto launch. No mention of ending the SEND funding crisis nor of supporting schools to improve behaviour. Still no clarity on what the vague wording on curriculum means. 🤷
This election is a choice — above all for teachers. The Tories will guarantee tax breaks for private schools. Labour will deliver more teachers, more training, and more support for new heads. Choose our children: sign up to back Labour’s plan 👇🏻 labour.org.uk/updates/storie…
That's why we call for education to be based on educational principles and teacher's experience and not upon the ever-changing whims of industry and politics.
The fact is, we do not know what work children will be doing in the future. Our present is, in some ways, vastly different to the past and, in other ways, substantially similar. How can we predict what skills will be needed?
Instead, he said Labour will 'prepare children for the work they are going to do' and ensure they are 'taught the skills they will need' We need to 'concentrate on creativity, confidence and resilience'
