Duty hike is not the real reason behind the drop in reported gold demand in India. The bigger shift is happening beneath the surface. When import duty rises sharply, official demand falls on paper, but physical demand does not disappear. A part of it simply moves outside the formal channel. Smuggling has risen enormously, and in many places gold and silver are now available at a discount to duty-implied landed prices. So the headline demand collapse is not purely demand destruction. It is also channel shift. The bigger psychological impact is coming from two things: Prime Minister’s request to reduce gold buying, and the younger generation already feeling that gold prices are too extended. That has created a temporary pause. But majority of India’s gold demand is not like normal discretionary demand. It is cultural. It is emotional. It is linked to weddings, savings, security, and trust. This demand may get delayed, but it rarely disappears. Once people realise gold prices are not coming down anytime soon, the same buyers who paused today will come back with more aggression tomorrow. In India, gold demand is inelastic. Price pauses buying for a while. But conviction brings it back stronger.

Despite the name, a Blue Moon is not actually blue in color. The term simply describes the second full moon within a single calendar month. Because the lunar cycle is approximately 29.5 days, two full moons rarely fit inside the same month. On average, a Blue Moon occurs only once every 2.5 years. The planetary “lineup” is an impressive sight created by perspective. While the planets are separated by hundreds of millions of miles in space, from our viewpoint on Earth they appear to line up across the sky alongside the brilliant Blue Moon. A perfect opportunity to look up this weekend and enjoy one of nature’s rarest sky shows.
