I agree, I understand the fear and concern people have about tech right now specifically data centers and AI, but the alternative is what? That we don't try to raise the standard of living for people across the world? Because that ultimately is something that AI can help us do, cure disease faster, solve the tough energy challenges we face. Its just really scary right now because everything works on a J curve and it gets a little worse before it gets a lot better.

Tech lead the rebound today, but the equal-weight SP500 held up reasonably well against the normal cap weighted (1.61% for equal weighted vrs 1.75% market cap) Small caps in particular had strength with Russel 2k up almost 3%. Good to see more than just the mega cap tech rally.

This is the thing most people are missing, there are going to be tons of net positives that eventually come out of AI but everyone is so upset about data center power and water usage. What is the alternative though? Should we give up on improving quality of life? Ultimately AI will improve quality of life to a greater amount than its negative impacts, its just a little scary and weird and that gets headlines because it drives clicks.
@leadlagreport It sure seems like it. That is one of the reasons I've always chosen a simple and kind of basic investment strategy based on cash flows instead over periods or years rather than trading based on anything in the news. Who the hell knows what if any of this is true

As samsung and intel catch up at cutting edge node i think most fabless companies will try to qualify all of them. No company wants to have a sole supplier (TSM) on their most critical products, that supplier can raise prices or let you down and you have no recourse. There is nothing you can do right now except say 'ok' to TSM. Whatever the effort and cost of having multiple qualified suppliers its worth it.
@Polymarket Cerebras IPO was over 20x oversubscribed. Obviously a much smaller $ raise, but oversubscribed IPOs aren't really much of a surprise.
A lot of people looking at this as a sign that they are throwing in the towel on Xbox, but i kind of see it a different way. Any large corp i've worked in usually winds up with so much middle management and culture rot that it winds up killing the very things that made that corp good. Sometimes in order to revitalize and turn around something you need to cut down to smaller teams that focus on core projects. That said, it all depends on WHO they layoff. I will freely admit that sometimes layoffs hit the wrong people.
SpaceX IPO will be all the talk for the next few days. Pricing today at that monster valuation. Love the ambition, but as someone who models DCFs and rNPVs and simulates outcomes using Monte Carlos, I'd kill for their visibility into future cash flows. High Growth at this scale is rare. Even if people don't want to admit Price does matter when buying stocks. first quarterly report in September should start to give some clarity of how much substance there is under the hype.
$40 an hour, plus heavily restricted on what it can do. Review this code for security issues? Nope sorry, even if its your own code can't do that. Cancer research, nope sorry. Better off with a human. Though my guess is eventually they will have a way for 'qualified companies' to pay a fee to get the non lobotimzed version.
I agree, I have seen a lot of one shot 'game' demos that while I admit it is impressive it managed to do, also are not games anyone would ever want to play. The one exception being Minecraft clones, which is a clone. The amount of effort to get those one shots to a real syllable game is being underestimated a lot. I do think we'll probably see a lot of bad video games coming out for a while until people realize that
