My book “The First Product Manager” is finally coming together. Why another book on product management? I spent the last 8 years doing product management. Or what I call “modern product management”. Businesses proved that great products can make you win. This explains why companies like Spotify have more users than Apple Music. At the same time, knowledge spread faster than ever, through platforms like Twitter or Substack. >> In less than a decade, anyone with the internet can become a PM. Yet, one topic is systematically missing from the radar: >> Product management in early-stage startups << The best books on product management simply don't apply to them. Startup time is the most limited resource a startup has. And so spending time on the wrong things is what kills it. The goal of this book is to provide some guidance. And de-risk product development for startups. In particular pre-product/market fit. It's also catered to later-stage businesses, that want to be more efficient, like they were in the early days. I have a template that I use when mentoring someone. The template outlines the responsibilities of their current role and their potential future role. I use yellow stickies to keep track of efforts that support those responsibilities. I am thinking of creating a template for the @figma community. Would you be interested in using it? You're fortunate if you have a great manager who keeps track of your accomplishments. Ultimately, though we are our biggest advocates. No one else will put as much effort into our growth as we will. That's why I think it's essential that we track our accomplishments ourselves and not rely on others to do it for us. What do you think?
