@CarrellTiff1971 @robnker @KellyMorrisonMN They usually don’t have insurance anyway, so…what’s your point? The topic at issue is whether “you have to have ID to have a baby” and you do not. That baby’s coming and hospital has to deliver regardless if mom is not safe to transfer elsewhere. It’s the law.

@OilfieldSlanger @robnker @KellyMorrisonMN Greed? It’s called following the law. Hospitals lose $ on these cases due to low reimbursement rates & they don’t issue birth certificates. They verify birth, provide info to State & it’s up to State to certify & issue. Sworn statements from mom usually suffice if no ID.

@robnker @KellyMorrisonMN Retired hospital CEO here. Your scenario is ideal, but absolutely not required. You show up to an ER in active labor, by federal EMTALA law you can’t be turned away for no insurance or ID. Hospital must find safe alternative, arrange transport, or deliver baby there. It happens.

@bigmouthnoears I feel your pain! I had the most frustrating & nonsensical exchange with them & got nowhere. I’m just trying to raise my issue to a higher level but every # they give me goes to voicemail & dies. They don’t want to talk to customers. This is why they’re always getting sued.
